You will get used to it in about 10 - 14 days from when it was fitted. Braces always feel real weird at first and sometimes rub your lips and cheeks, but this will all get better. Be patient and try to eat softer foods to start with, it won't be long before the brace just feels normal to your mouth.

You'll get used to it. Used to the feel, used to the taste, and used to at least a little bit of pain much of the time. It depends how they're adjusted as to how much pain you'll feel. If it hurts a LOT then get them adjusted a.s.a.p. Braces are for correction, not torture, so don't let anyone tell you it doesn't really hurt that much -- they're not the ones suffering.
I used to take an extra-strength Tylenol every morning with breakfast and it usually worked till after classes finished. It wasn't bad pain, just uncomfortable, and the Tylenol helped take the edge off.
Btw, watch out for chewing gum, even if the gum's packaging says it "won't stick" to dental work. It WILL stick. And so well that you won't be able to get it all off yourself. And watch out for popcorn too. I spent many an uncomfortable hour listening to grumbling from people in white masks while I sat in The Chair as they (not so gently!) pried gum or popcorn husks from my braces and then later my retainer.

It is uncomfortable, but you will get used to it. If the braces are rubbing on your gums and making them sore anywhere in your mouth, go back to your orthodontist and ask them for the rubber protectors you can put over the metal (unfortunately this does make it feel bigger though) or there is wax you can ask your orthodontist for which you apply on the brace in the sore spot to stop it having contact with skin etc.
Good luck and persevere, the results will be worth it!!

Hey I've had braces for about 3 years now. But when you firstly get braces they will hurt for about a week, after that they will feel normal so just don't worry about it and Good Luck.

it'll feel weird for a bit and then you'll start to get used to it..... they probably gave you wax sticks to put on any shape bits too... i suggest you do that as it'll give you sore inside lips, but remember it's a short term evil, .....you'll have fabulously straight teeth, and nobody takes any notice of a brace anyway.
it may get a bit uncomfortable when it gets tightenen but you'll get used to it mate
