Yes. Often known as a compulsive or pathological liar, they just can't help themselves. The thing is that they are not very good at it. They can't remember one lie from the next and constantly slip up, finding it difficult to backup each lie.
I once knew somebody like this. She lied all the time about promotions she didn't get at work (I worked with her so I knew she hadn't been promoted), to trying for the sympathy vote saying her husband was working away for the week in his really important job and that she was all alone. (They were both spotted shopping together).
She would even lie about silly things that didn't matter like where she went for lunch and what she ate. She just lied all day, all the time, and although I knew this was an illness, I ended up getting sick and tired of listening to her because I never knew if she was lying or telling the truth, I cut myself off from her and had as little conversations with her as I possibly could.
In the end, our bosses caught on to the fact that she was a compulsive liar and sacked her because she was causing bad feelings in the workplace talking about this promotion that she 'didn't' get.

Pathological, compulsive which ever there great fun to be around. I know a guy an average guy that has seen WWII German submarines washed up to shore. His wife is a fugitive in flordia. His grandfather was the model for the original GI Joe. Has family members in secret Goverment angencies. Great uncle who used to produce most of Al Capones moonshine ETC. ETC.. Every time there is a story about a long time famous person on the news he has a family member who knew them. I think it is fun tho. I like him he is entertaining.

honestly, when i was a kid my parents noticed me lying about very small things, things that theres absolutely no meaning to lie, it couldnt matter less what u said...do u catch my drift... so i got scheduled to meet with some kind of special doctor to try and fix the habit, and when i grew up my parents and i talked about it one night, and they figured it was because of how my parents would react when i told the truth if i did something wrong, and they punished me, so something in my brain that didnt like the part of feeling in trouble, triggered every time, to kind of prolong the punishment, so i would lie and say things like no i didnt break it, and then theyd find proof and ask me something and i wouldnt lie to get out of trouble i would just lie to put off the punishment... thats all i really know...
