It is definately possible to be allergic to eggs. I know someone who is allergic to them, and she has to be very careful about it.

Such an allergy wouldn't cause you to catch a cold... that's an entirely different thing. By the same token, allergic reactions can cause some "flu like" symptoms.

I'd say get your doctor to write you a referral to an allergy specialist. It's not something you have to do every time you find you're allergic to something... but since it's such a common food item, and you may very well not be allergic at all, you're best off finding out. And if you are allergic to a food that is in so many products, you could do with the advice on how to adjust your diet.

yes its possible. The cold you had is actually an inflammatory reponse of the respiratory tract and not cold per se. This happens when some chemicals present in the eggs, which are basically harmless, cause your body to ellicit a certain response due to release of chemicals called histamines. The body sometimes misinterprets these chemicals and exerts an immune response / protective response to counteract them. If time and again, say another 2-3 times you have the same problems after consuming eggs, then you can assume you are allergic to them. There is basically no cure, except of anti-histaminic drugs which only supress the reaction and thats not very good. So just avoid eggs!

If they are allergic to eggs they can not have anything to do with eggs. There are recipes for eggless cakes online that are very easy to make. More than likely you will find the friend will not eat anything if they are that allergic no matter what you make or get. It would be a nice to have something they could eat, I just wouldn't go over board. Mark Piece of Cake Bakery Inc. Black Truffle Chocolatiers Inc.
