I had a Fuji S7000, it was and still is a beautiful camera. When the 9500 first came out I couldn't wait so I raced out and bought one. It is the most miserable piece of junk I have ever owned.
Pictures are not clear and sharp. There are blocks of pixels in photos and distant object are badly fringed.
After that I bought a Nikon D50, a little bit dearer, but what a fantastic camera for the price!
I know nothing about the Canon, but my advice is stay away from the Fuji S9000/9500.

Tough call... The Fuji has a bigger sensor and more pixels and higher available ISO, but the Canon has image stabilization, which will really help with the long zoom shots. The Fuji weighs an additional half a pound!
My daughter has the S2 IS and loves it. She has had a Canon 35 mm for a while as well as a "smaller" digital camera, so she has some degree of experience in her evaluation. All I know so far is the pictures look good. :-)

I owned a Canon S2 IS until a few months ago when I went DSLR, but the camera was absolutely great. It had a huge zoom range (12x), 5MP (which on the S3 is 6MP) and the video capability was untouchable. It recorded in stereo sound instead of mono, and had built in wind noise reduction. Blairing concerts sounded very good and not overwhelming.
My S2 had tons of cool features for manipulating colors, etc, during shooting. I brought it on a long vacation in Europe and it served me fantastically!!!
I realize you are looking into the S3 and not the S2! But since the S3 is the S2 on steroids, you should be stylin' with the S3!!!
Happy shopping

I would recommend Canon S3 IS because;
1. Canon is the world leader in Cameras
2. It has a better photo quality than any others
3. S3 IS has 12x optical zoom where as FinePix has only 10.7x
4.S3 IS has Image stabilization but FinePix doesnt have that feature.

My vote is for the canon. I worked at Target for a few months where we had the S2 IS. I LOVED playing with that camera. It has great features and i would recommend it to anyone. The S3 IS is just the S2's big brother. Basically the same camera with more MP and probably a few extra fatures.

the large distinction is in how they're used. So the ideal one will come to the photographer and how it is going to likely be used. i decide for the x100 for right here motives. I do shoot distinctive street. speedier aperture, mounted focal length, viewfinder. instruction manual dials for finished administration over exposure. And after using a instruction manual movie digital camera for such distinctive years, a fuji felt extremely at residing house in my hand as digital camera. better than any dalr ive held. people who choose to decide for the canon g1x have a greater known purpose with their photograpby. Or they choose a small digital camera to hold arround while they do no longer seem to be wearing their dslr. I didnt evaluate the g1x through fact of my street photos. and that i needed a small digital camera to supplemnt my movie cameras. maximum critically, it felt greater delicate to shoot with, equivalent to my instruction manual movie cameras. It feels strange to hold the digital camera faraway from the physique like a typical factor and shoot.
