all these quotes are from wise men, who could discern the fictitious base of all religions. but what about all the multitude of less intelligent and uneducated masses of people, would they not be more comfortable wrapped and protected by their superstitions, even if it suffocates the little ability they have to reexamine their customs?

Religion has nothing to do with "perfection." Religion is simply man trying to determine and do God's will. Since man is not perfect, neither can religion be perfect. All religions acknowledge this fact. Even Atheism is technically a religion in that an Atheist believes that man alone is the sole source of good or perfection (rather than God.) Some other religions believe that Nature, for example, is responsible.

In each case, however, perfection is never attained...all still battle with good and evil.

For the time being, let's accept your premise that all religions ARE simply "murderous fairy stories." Fairy tales...including murderous ones...are a legitimate means for teaching and learning about truth, morality, and virtue.

Some people have learned great lessons about say, driving a car, by causing a horrific accident that kills and/or injures 10 people. An important truth has been learned...although not in what most would consider a pleasant way. Still, such a lesson wouldn't be "wrong" or "invalid."

Finally, the fact that non-religious persons are capable of good and evil, proves that it's man who is responsible for choosing those things...not religion (or God.) If all atheists were perfectly good...and all believers were perfectly evil, your assumption would be valid.

Love all, forgive all, show mercy, judge no-one. How does any of that equate to murder? As for fairy story, there is more evidence to support the life of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection than almost anyone else in history. The writings of the Roman Empire at that time document the rise of Christianity, which would not have happened without the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15).

i think it's unfair to say that all religion is a fairytale. i think that if people need religion to feel like there is a purpose to all this then let them have it. why shouldn't they have their fairytale as you may call it. and why do others feel they have the right to be the wicked with and try and crush that. i know that i for a fact need something to attribute all the pain and suffering in teh world to! a reason to believe that everything is for a purpose, taht i am not suffering in vain... because if we don't then i guess we all mght as well have a mass suicide now and end all the countless speculation! sine there's no heaven, hell, nirvana, afterlife. noting to look forwad to nothing to work toward then why don't we just end it all now. what are we waiting around to see what happens for???

Of course people have distorted the teachings of faith to suit their own ends over the years but crimes of all magnitudes are committed daily by non-believers too.

Faith, like love, is impossible to prove but, on balance, the good that religion has done over 5,000 years outweighs the evil done in its name.

However, we might agree on a couple of things. Blasphemy laws are irrelevant, a good faith should be able to stand up to criticism without recourse to law. Note I said criticism - not abuse!

Secondly faith has no place in constitution. State faiths are, by and large, unhelpful. And here I incllude the Church of England.

I am, I think, a reasonable intelligent, rational man but my experiences in life lead me to believe in God. Yours don't. I respect that and ask you to respect my life experiences too.

FINALLY someone elsewho hes it right. All religions do is indoctrinate the mass, corupt the youth, and endorse voilence against other religions.

Take Catholics for example. They belive the it is their right to FORCE everyone of other religions because they are so pretencious that they belive they are correct and everyone else is wrong.

And look at Hitler. He used Christianity as a reason to exterminate the Jews. "I am doing god's work cleaning the filth off of the planet."

And its hard to avoid in the current political climate but look at EXTREAMIST muslims (NOT ALL). They use their God and Prophet to bomb London, to fly 2 planes into the world trade centres, ect. ect.

Back to Catholics if you look carefully whenever somthing even close to attacking their religion (The Da Vinci Code, Legislation against faith schools in England ect. ect.) they jump right on top of it shouting loudly and with much finger pointing about how its wrong and is undermiming their faith.
Are they so INSECURE that they think some of their belivers will think "Hey this is right im gonna cause an upstart against the church" they they have to jump down their throats to stop them. Like they have somthing to hide.

There are lots more cases a lot like this for ALL religions.

How puny the achievements of these mortal men in comparison with Jehovah's creation of billions of heavenly galaxies, each containing billions of suns like our own, and his grouping and setting them in space for measureless time! (Psalm 19:1, 2 ; Job 26:7, 14) It is no wonder that Jehovah regards men as mere grasshoppers, and mighty nations "as nothing."-Isaiah 40:, 22.
Do you live in a house? Probably you did not build the house yourself, nor do you know who did. However, the fact that you do not know the builder would not prevent you from accepting the truth that some intelligent person built it. To reason that the house built itself would appear very foolish! Since the great universe, and everything in it, required infinitely greater intelligence for its construction, is it not reasonable to conclude that there must be an Intelligent Creator? (Romans 1:20) Where there is intellect, there is mind. Where there is mind, there is a person. The supreme intellect is that of the Supreme Person, the Creator of all things living, the very Fountain of life. There are some whose belief in God was shaken by the hard experiences of World War II. At that time each country called upon its "God," whether of the Catholic or Protestant religions or of the Oriental religions. Could it be said that "God" gave victory to some of these nations and allowed others to be defeated? The Bible shows that none of these nations were calling on the true God. Jehovah God, the Creator of heaven and earth, is not responsible for the confusion and wars among the nations. (1 Corinthians 14:33) His thoughts are far above those of the political and militaristic nations of this earth. (Isaiah 55:8, 9) Likewise, the true religion and worship of Jehovah has no part in the wars of the nations. Jehovah is far above nationalistic gods. He is unique in being the God of peace-loving men and women in all nations. As the Bible says: "God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him." (Acts 10:34, 35 ) Righteously inclined persons in all nations are now learning the Bible and are embracing the worship of the true "God who gives peace," the Creator of all mankind.-Romans 16:20; Acts 17:24-27.


Some people point to the divisions and hypocrisy in the religions of Christendom, which claim to follow the Bible. They also say, 'How can I believe the God of the Bible, when the nations that have the Bible are among those feverishly stockpiling nuclear weapons?' The fact is that, while the Bible remains always true, the nations of Christendom have become as far removed from Bible Christianity as the North Pole is removed from the South Pole. They are hypocritical in professing Christianity. They have the Bible, but they do not obey its teachings. The American president who ordered the first atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima once exclaimed: "Oh, for an Isaiah or a St. Paul!"-to guide men in this world crisis. Had he agreed with Isaiah of the Bible, he would never have dropped an atom bomb, for Isaiah advocated 'beating swords into plowshares and spears into pruning shears.' Moreover, it was Paul of the Bible who declared: "We do not wage warfare according to what we are in the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly." (Isaiah 2:4; 2 Corinthians 10:3, 4) However, instead of following the wise counsel of the Bible, the nations of Christendom have become involved in a suicidal armaments race. Any claims they make to being Bible-obeying Christians are false. They must face God's judgment for failing to do his will.-Matthew 7:18-23; Zephaniah 1:17, 18.
