she's only 10 years old, but i've found a notebook of hers which has doodles of Hilary Duff's name with hearts around it and "S. J. + H. D. 4 EVER" (S. J. being my daughter's intitials)
this seems really wrong...
should I take away her posters and dvds of hilary??

I wouldn't take away her posters and dvds. That is more likely to make her rebel and continue this behavior. Instead, you should talk to your daughter about why you feel this is inappropriate behavior. Continue to talk with her about how she feels towards boys and girls to monitor how your daughter is developing. If you still think you have a problem, you might want to talk to some various religious leaders in your area about what else can be done to address the issue.

She's only 10 and probably just really looks up to Hilary Duff. Give it some time and see what happens. At the end of the day you can't change anyones feelings or emotions. As she's so young I doubt it's anything serious. A lot of girls only start having crushes on people when they are older than this. Stop worrying and giveher some privacy.

Sounds to me like its not a crush at all.
Its just simple idolisation which is perfectly normal.
Kids at a certain age are often disinterested or may even dislike the opposite sex and stick to their own until hormonal changes later on change them around.
As that change occurs Hilary Duff will be out or toned down, and boys will start to take her interest.

Please don't tell her it's wrong, but be patient with her. If she is gay then atleast you will have a daughter that won't feel like her mother hates her. Humans are all different right? Love her as your daughter regardless of her sexuality. I was the same way. I'm healthy and happily married to a handsome man. It's not the end of the world if she has a crush on another girl. Love her anyways.

no dont take away her stuff, she's young and doesnt understand the concept of love or 'having a crush' she looks up to hilary as a role model and the whole heart thing with the names probably means friendship as apposed to romance.
it's good that she's found a role model, kids need someone to look up to or something to aspire to - and it most commonly is a celebrity. don't punish her for this.

Yes, take away any possession she has of Hilary. Then explain to her that she is just a celebrity. Then explain to her that women do not love women as women love men. If she continues to be obsessed, you must punish her until she understands what is right and wrong.
