Please help and tell me.Are there chances of getting my greencard renwed or can i go back with the same greencard. My uncle is not willing to help me. He has destroyed my life. The law states if you leave outside the US for more than a year (and failed to request a permission to leave for an extended time PRIOR to leaving), then you have lost your permanent resident status. You can not use Form I-90 for this. You need to start your permanent residency process all over again. If for example you became a resident as the minor child of an LPR, then if you are still under 21, reapply under that category or you may have to change category to adult child of an LPR. If your father has been an LPR for more than 5 years, urge him to become a citizen so that your pocess of obtaining the greencard would be much shorter. It can make the difference between just 3 years wait vs. 13 years wait. Sorry to give you the bad news.

Hey!,you don't need to worry dude because if you get a green card once, it means that you are a "lawful permanent resident" of the USA.So,dont worry just go to the nearest US embassy or consulate(if you are outside the US) and get your green card renewed and if you are within the US file the form I-90 through either mail or internet. But please consult an attorney(lawyer) because there are some do's and dont's in this.He will help you throughout the process.Thats it,go back to the USA and have fun.Hope you the best buddy.GOOD LUCK!

If you have been outside the US for more than one year, you have lost your residency and your green card is no longer valid.
