Are you suffering from manic depression bought on by being body dis-morphic,I have a son who suffers with this condition and refuses to take medication for it because he thinks there is nothing that can help him.He doesn't realise he is body dis-morfic so thinks there is no help.He really believes there is something wrong with him, and there isn't,none of us can convince him,he says we are only saying he is normal because we love him and don'tr want to hurt him.
I am now desperate to know what to do before he does take his life. He has gradually cut all of his family off and it's now hard to even get him on the phone.I am thinking of sectioning for his own safety.Anyone know what else I can do.Help please.Sincere answers only please, this is a last ditched attempt for help before taking that step.

Personally on me no. But i know 2 people who have this disorder. This disorder often comes with depression, some people can live with having it, but it's very hard. It's caused by 2 things, fist of all the person doesn't see him/herself as they really look like. Then there's the fact that the eyes send a "signal" to the brain, which stays in the brain and goes over and over again. If he truly feels depressed, there's many solutions, there's the hard way. Get him under the knife what what he doesn't like (not the best solution, but it does help alot) if he can prove he has the disorder the government might pay for it too or partially. Then there is aromatherapy, sounds basic and stupid, but it helps people with disorders linked to they're body. Then there's help centers for that with intensive therapies. Then there's always a very pain-full solution, is to get his hospitalized, because he is a threat to himself or others. As a parent it's the worst decision, but they will force him to take his meds, and give him therapy which is much needed.

Get on a plane and get to him ASAP. Suicidal ppl should never be left alone. Depression can be caused by many things that can lead to a cyclical sort of hopelessness. If you suspect that he is suicidal you need to get to where he is asap. You may need to take him to a hospital so that he can be monitored. Severe depression can be treated by zoloft, paxil, trazodone or a combination of other anti- depressants. Ask a psychiatrist to prescribe the meds. Have him take small doses and increase the dose so that he does not have a bad reaction to it. You will need to watch him closely for the first few weeks b/c medication that affect the brain can cause many undesirable psychological effects if not monitored carefully. It may take a few weeks for him to feel better and a few year for him to get back to normal but all in all he needs to be taken care of. That is what he is telling you with all of his symptoms. People with body dis-morphic disorder do not feel like they can control their lives and need to be cared for with special care. Please go to your son immediatly. No matter the cost. Try to get a friend of his or some one to stay with him, and possibly spend the night.

Is he on depression medication or is the medication you mentioned for his condition. I am sorry, I never heard of this condition and do not know what it means.
If you feel that his life is in danger, maybe you should report this to a psychiratrist of mental health clinic. This is better than him taking his life. He may feel angry if you do this, but that is much better than him not being here to feel anything. Good luck.

I was the same and there is little you can do but have him sectioned. A stay in hospital will hopefully get him to realise that all is not lost. It may not work but what can you loose. Best Wishes.

If you think he is going to commit suicide in my state it only takes 2 adult signatures to have someone commited, although they are only commited for an evaluation. You should call a suicide hotline and ask them for some information reguarding your son. You may also concider contacting the police for information on comitting him. Good luck!

I'm afraid that sectioning might be the only course of action if talking to him hasn't worked.
I hope all comes good for you - but you definately need to do something soon.

You need to act quickly and if sectioning him saves his life, than as his parent you must do it.
My mother-in-law did the same to one of her sons and it definately saved his life!
Good luck
