A friend of mine is considering dating a guy 8 years younger than her, (normally I would consider this none of my business) she asked me what I thought about it? I m not really sure, I think it would depend on the person and their maturity level. I m just curious to see what other people think. I know that my first thought was "what's wrong that you can't get someone your own age?" I DID NOT tell her this...it was just a first thought so please don't slaughter me for it. I just want an open mind before I tell her my opinions on it. She is a sweet person and I want to be able to answer her with some advice from others as well as my own.

Ok, well I told her to give it a try and if she ends of being happy then yay but if not then she can break if off before there is major attachment or damage and she would have another friend to hang out with! Thanks everyone for your answers.. I want to choose all of you as Best answers but I can't so Im putting it to vote.

I think once you reach a certain age, it doesn't really matter. At my age now, I wouldn't because he'd still be in high school!!!

It depends on how old the guy actually is. I dated a guy that was just one year younger than me and I promised myself I would only date guys older after that. He wasn't totally immature, but I have always been more mature for my age and he was not at my level of maturity relationship wise. If your friend really thinks the guy is good for her and he's not a minor or close to a minor then I say to each his own. It never hurts to try. Also, I am curious about why she wants wants to date someone so much younger.

I would see no problem assuming no legal issue is there (meaning the guy is under 18) and they're both interested in a mature relationship. Guys at ANY age can be immature asses, no matter if he's 8 years younger, older, or the same age as her.
I think you're being a very thoughtful and supportive friend and I wish her the best of luck.

Depends on your friends age......
If she is my age, then its okay... it would make the guy 32 years old..... but if she is 18 then definelty not.
If the guy is over 18 and he is at the same level of maturity as the girl involved then there isnt a problem. Its a personal choice

first of all it would depend on the age are we talking 26-18 or are we talking 35-27 or even 43-35... it can work and it may not but obviously she values your opinion and I am assuming YOUR honest opinion. I say depending on age yes it could happen look at Demi and Ashton, okay maybe celebrities arent the best example but the bottom line they are happy. Who's to say your friend isnt just thinking about it in the short term sense either. Maybe he makes her feel youthful and happy again, long term though it may not work... I dunno it all depends. Time will give her her answer.

Why not if the guy has a maturity level, i have dated younger and older guy and i find that the older ones act more like a little boy than the younger one did. it's to me was a lesson learn i say that to say this age is just a number as long as he's not a kid. so i think she should go for it.

i dont think age would be the problem i think it would be the maturity level. Women are generally more mature that guys so, it pprobably wouldnt last anyway. Maybe you should tell your friend that. But then again, if its love than whats there to say......

I think it really depends on what age they actually are. If one is over 18 and the other is under eighteen...no, because its illegal. Otherwise, sure, try it out.
