Hi there...he maybe interested in gaining your attention or making a plea for you to turn on the water faucet to play with the water or have a drink. Many cats enjoy fresh water from various sources such as sinks, tubs and even the toilet.
[edit] part of my original answer didn't post to the correct question--my apologies.

One of my cats just loves to jump in our bathtub. We always have the curtain closed to it but if I'm in the bathroom, she'll jump into the bath tub, hide behind the curtain and meow as if wanting the attention of hide and seek. When I'm in the shower, she'll sit at the ledge at the back of the shower and just enjoy the spray bits. She'll also try to grab my arm when I lean to get the shampoo. She'll also get up to the bathroom sink and paw at the faucet until I turn it on, just to a few drips, and she'll grab at the drips and drink from her paw.
Bottom line is: for some reason cats love tubs and sinks, maybe it's just a part of their nature. I'd say it's nothing to worry about and just leave him to it :)
Also, I agree with the guy that said about the spider and silverfish going down the drain. That may well be the case, and good logic.

Whoever made the comment about your cat being in heat......male cats don't go into heat, females do. And since you consistantly used words like "he", "him", and "his", I'm guess your cat ISN'T a female, lol.
But males WILL yowl to attract the attention of females for mating purposes. Neutering often quiets all cats down, so if kitty hasn't been snipped, get it done. It's better for his health, anyway.
That being said, my cat does this, too. He loves the bathrooms. He will bang on the door if you go in and shut the door (like "how DARE you shut me out of my bathroom!" lol). My brother speculated that it has something to do with some cats viewing the bathroom as the "watering hole". This makes sense with my male since he'd much rather drink from the bathtub, sink, or toilet than from his water dish (even when there's fresh water in it).
I've heard of some cats being intrigued by the acoustics in bathtubs. Their meows have a funny echo and it amuses/perplexes them so they keep on doing it. Kind of like how people yell "echo!" in a mountainous region;)
As long as he's not displaying any other weird behaviors or doing his business in the tub, I think it's safe to say he's fine and this is just one of his quirks.

There is a spider or silver fish in the drain. That's the first thing that comes too mind. His play buddy slash pray item dissapeared down the hole and now he's all kinds of p1ssed off.
The other possiblity is that he's thirsty. Even though you are providing fresh clean water for your kitty buddy too drink he might be having a hard time identifing it as water. Cats are designed too drink pond scummy water when they are thirsty. The water that you are presenting him in his dish is full of clorine, floride, and nothing else. He might be confused because it doesn't jive with what his DNA says is water. If this is the case you can trick him into drinking from the bowl.
Wanna know how? Do ya? Do ya?
I'ma tell you anyways! HA!
This treatment is going too take you 14 days.
In one quart of water put a teaspoon of sugar, a TINY pinch of salt, and two full pinches of dirt from the yard (the stuff your grass grows in). Shake that up really really really good and then offer that up in his water dish. He can't smell the sugar. But it will registar in his tummy as a good thing. The dirt will make him think he's getting the real thing. The salt is just too add a bit more realisim for him and too trick him into coming back too the water again. REMEMBER! Only a SMALL ITTY BITTY pinch of salt. After fourteen days you stop putting dirt in the water. After another 14 days you stop putting salt in it. And after another 14 days you stop putting sugar in it.
I'm still betting that it's a silver fish that he's after.
Hope that helps.

Does he have fresh water down? A lot of cats don't like water once it's sat for awhile or has gotten something in it. He is probably jumping in the bath tub to try to get water from the spout. My female cat does this whenever I haven't been home and her water got too old. lol

One of my cats likes to talk, and he especially likes to talk on the stairwell leading to the basement. My husband speculates that it's the acoustics, and I tend to agree. He stops when I call him.
If I were you, I'd start by putting a bowl of water in the bathtub to see if he's meowing because he's thirsty. If he doesn't go for the water, he may just like the sound of his voice.

He may want you to give him a drink from the tap, they love fresh water. Maybe he has learned that this gets your attention. What do you do when you go into him after the meowing?? He may want to go outside to go to the toilet because my cat goes into the bath or shower when she wants to go to the toilet. Hope this helps.

Cats can supposedly see ghosts thats why they freek out and jump on the walls for no reason. There might be something in the house that your cat sees that no one else can see and it might be scared. Or there could be something in the tub that it really wants and is trying to call out for it.
