mostly on the bottom jaw, I'm only 31 (female), I smoke about 10 ciggarettes a day or less but otherwise I am fairly healthy, no alcohol or drugs, although I have had more stress than usual in the past 2 years, is there anything to reverse or stop this from happening, aswell as giving up smoking?

you need to go see your dentist for a check up. He/She will probably have you go to a periodontist who specializes in deep tissue and implants and other bone and tissue issues.
DO NOT WAIT GO NOW !!

Did you know that your toothbrush could be the cause? You must always use a soft toothbrush never hard. Pushing to hard will cause gums to receed too. Plus you must floss and get every bit of plaque from off the teeth at the gum line.

This website is amazing tips on how to clean your teeth. Read it and then make an appointment with a Periodontist. Maybe your receeding can be stopped. It will not be reversed however unless you have gum grafts. Gums do not grow back.

You most likely have a Gum disease! You need to go to a regular dentist or a periodontist and have a deep cleaning done.It is usually done in quadrants-4 of them and under local anesthesia,so all the buildup around your teeth can be removed, without any pain! Also,I don't know if you do,but if you don't,then you need to start using mouth wash everyday, there are even some more special ones that the dentist can prescribe you and it will help a lot!You absolutely have to floss in order to prevent another buildup around your teeth and you must have regular cleanings every 6 months. Now,if the situation cannot be fixed with a deep cleaning, then you might require some gum surgery.A periodontist can tell you more about that!
But make sure you take care of that, because if left untreated, gum decease is a dangerous thing-it causes no pain,so you think everything is fine, when in fact is getting worst!
Your teeth will start losing bone mass and they will start falling out!So hurry up girl!!!Good luck!
