It means that if you're poor, you have a better chance of getting into heaven. Why? Because Jesus realized that there are more poor people than there are rich people. Pandering to the hopeless made him popular with the people. It made people want to join his cult.

If Jesus hadn't been such a narcissist, rich people would be getting into Heaven instead. He just couldn't impress the "haves" as much as he could the "have nots". They were better educated and not over-awed by his parlor tricks. They just didn't feed his over-inflated ego enough, so making them out to be the bad guys was the only logical thing he could do.

The "Eye of the Needle" was a famous entryway into Jeruselm. A camel, not carrying any luggage, and with no passenger could barely squeeze through. Many travelers used camels. If they wanted to go that way into the city, then they had to unload their camel frist to get in. This process is much easier then a rich man to give up his possesions to follow in the way of the Lord so that he could enter into the kingdom of heaven. Its not saying that it is impossible for a rich man to make it into the kingdom of God. He can do it, only if he truely follows in the footsteps of the master. But as the analagy goes, it is easier for the camel to get through the eye of the needle.

The church was ever so creative in finding new ways to take money and treasures from the simple minded early Christians, so they developed a new policy, stating that rich people can't enter heaven, and they should give all the money to the Church.

as you can see, a camel can never go through the extremely narrow eye of a needle.

In the time of this was written, they had great big walls around the city, any one that was traveling, had to go to the gate, called a eye of the needle.
The camel had to be stripped off, and then the camel could go into the city, the cargo it was carrying had to be hand carried into the city,
it was a way thieves could not steal any loot without getting caught, the eye of the needle would tell on him, the camel could not go into the city, or out of the city with anything on its back,
The message here is,
when you come to Christ, we come as we are, then we have to allow God to change us into his Sons image,
All our baggage from the world has to be striped, and we have to come into the kingdom clean, some people hang onto things from the world, they can never come into the kingdom of God without being stripped from sin.

Those who try to become rich by wealth will never care to become rich in faith and to spend his wealth for the poor and needy.
This is why it is said it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than a rich man to enter in to kingdom of God

The eye of the needle was a very small gate in or beside the regular gates of a city. It was barely wide enough for a camel to scrape through. Jesus is saying that an over-burdened life will not make it through the gate. A richman with his life full of pleasures and little of God will have to loose some of his baggage to make it through the 'eye of the needle' in God's gate.

Before you jump into conclusions the eye of the needle was a narrow gate in which all camels laden with cargo had to pass through, a method of collecting tax in those days.
The camel had to be unloaded, then loaded up again at the other end of the gate a procedure which is said to be difficult.

It means that a person with money is distracted by it. His life is preoccupied in keeping it and making more as oppose to someone who has none. The one who lives a simple life has a better chance of maintaining a good relationship with God.

An instance is when a rich man asked Jesus what he could to be saved. Jesus asked him to leave all his possessions and follow his footsteps. The man left distraught cause he had many posessions. And then Jesus explained to his disciples what you wrote.

They are speaking of the sins.

Sin to be selfish, glutton, slothful, etc.
Rich people are a lot of times selfish, gluttonous, and slothful. So christians think that these are reasons that you go to hell. Back then in bible times, the poor were more dignified because they had to prove theirselves and the want to be better. This gained good recognition with religion. The rich did not bother and so therefore the christians thought they were bad or evil and going to hell.

My guess is that a rich man would rather have his wealth and all the power and prestige that goes with it (not to mention all the cool stuff) than to throw it all away and live in humility following the path of God.

It's just a guess though
