well, a bike can be general,as in motor bike, scooter/moped and bicycle. But the difference between a bicycle and a motor bike is that the bicycle hasnt got a motor. A bike as in a scooter/moped has a motor, but is not as strong or as fast as a motor bike.

I hope that answered your question.

Time to explore language... yuck.
Bike originated as the word bicycle, so technically "bike" is "bicycle".

However the makeup of the word bicycle is "bi", meaning 2, and "kuklos", meaning "circle" (from the Greeks).

Assuming this definition, the contacted word "bike" could mean any structure that has 2 circles, or more strictly anything that has 2 wheels. Therefore, "bike" can mean "bicycle" or "motorcycle" depending on format and usage.

This is really a pretty good question. I think it depends on what world you live in. I know of very few people who refer to there motorcycles as such they always refer to them as there bikes so the term can be used both ways, for both vehicles.
I believe the correct term or terminology for a bicycle is HPV (Human Powered Vehicle ) Bi - meaning two wheel, to include the Bicycle and Recumbent. Tri as in three to include Trikes and so on and are all considered HPV's.
