My cats hate the smell of mint, I don't know if it a cat thing or just my cats, but wipe the counter down with a foul smelling thing for them. Another thing is take out your cookie sheets, be sure they are thin metal and make lots of noise, buy some cheap ones if you have the good ones like me, anyway, cover the counter with those, turn them upside down when you cover it. He will HATE the noise, plus, it is not a stable area and the cat will feel unsafe. The combination of both will eventually make him not want to go up there. You will probaly have to do this for a month for him to remember.

Neutering your kitten will also go a long way to taming him. The water thing is good, but you also have to be around day and night to make sure he is not up there, and if you work, that can be a problem. The best thing is just to make sure you wipe your counters down before you cook until he is broken of the habit.

You can try this alarm they sale its not harmful to cats you just place it on the countertops or where ever you dont want him to be at and it will go off for 2 sec's then it automatically resets itself its about 22 bucks they might sale them at petsmart or petco if not you can buy it online. Or if you dont want to use an alarm you can try this mat its called X-Mat its at the same site thats cheaper than the alarm.
Her is what the site says about the X-Mat
Train your cat to respect your boundaries without the use of alarms or electricity.Hundreds of raised bumps create passive discomfort zones. With consistent use,X-Mat teaches your cat to steer clear of kitchen counters, furniture, plants, andselected rooms – even after you remove the X-Mat.
Here is what the site says about the alarm
Keeps cats off of furniture, from chewing on chairs, or from scratching at the door. The Tattle Tale sensor picks up the slightest vibration to the surface that it is on.An audible alarm scares away the cats and alerts you to the problem. The alarm will sound for 2 seconds and then it will automatically reset itself. The sensitivity can be set on either high or low. Replaceable 9-volt battery included.

the spray bottle idea is good and also a rolled up newspaper, it makes a lot of noise
make sure that you dont leave anything tempting on the counter
to attract the kitten and if you are going to be working at the counter, feed the cat first and away from the counter

i know cats are a pain but i love em, they are always gonna do it i sqiurt mine with water when i catch em, but when your not home they'll do it again n again n again they'll even sleep up there when you're not home! when there's cats in the house prepare to clean more is my advise, clean your counters with disinfectant spray or bleach water or something b4 you use the counters to prepare food is your best bet! if my bottle isn't in reach i'll just yell at em and stomp my foot and they jump off. don't get me wrong they can be taught, but its hard consistant work involved, cats are great and i love them but they get in where ever they fit in, shed and spread litter everywhere, just like humans and everything esle has their flaws, cats have theirs too! you gotta take the good with the bad! i have 7 cats and 4 or 5 of them all get on my counters probably all 7 for all i know! but they're still my babies

provide it a week, they're going to artwork it out :) We have been given a kitten and had a 5 year previous cat. those 2 are bff's now. The older one hated the kitten as quickly as we first introduced him homestead yet they lay, play, eat, sleep and cuddle jointly now. The water bottle is a great gadget for any type of cat coaching.

A great way is to get a spray bottle. Put tap water in it and everytime he jumps up there, squirt him with it until he jumps down. Eventually he'll put together that him jumping up there triggers this water spraying and he'll avoid it like the plaque! This is how I have trained all of my cats.

Put contact paper sticky side up on the counter, and he will hate it. It might be a deterrant. Or put tape, sticky side out on his feet, put him on the counter and hopefully he will associate a discomfort with the counter. It is not inhumane, and a little funny if you ask me. Just take it off later okay.

Spray it with water or spray the counter with a smell it hates, like bitter lemon. It should associate either with the counter and stop the behaviour.

Get a water bottle and spray with toward the cat. It worked for mine. It's just something abotu the water that makes them run in the other direction
