both are popular choices.
Olympus has been doing cameras for a long time.
Sony has been doing electronics for a long time and uses lenses from people who know about optics.

The olympus Evolt series is nice.
Sony will limit you to memory stick format.
sony models may be easier to use.
I would say both are good choices, get the one you can afford and that you have tried and liked.

Go Olympus. They have a long history of superior performance with SLR film cameras and are carrying it into the digital age.

Kodak easyshare. Probably the best bang for your buck. Not usually small, but pretty good little guys, now that Kodak is using different lenses!
