Her father died when she was a baby and her mother and I married two years ago. She considers me to be her Dad but would love it if she could be more than a step-daughter.

It depends on the state you live in. I live in Illinois, and it is possible here if you fit the criteria. Look up "adult adoptions in ___________ (put in the name of your state)".
I, by the way, understand your, and her, desire for that, so ignore people who say its pointless. If that would really mean something to your family, do it.

you would be best to get legal advice on that one- but adoption wont make her any more of a daughter to you than she already is;
this is about how you care for & feel for each other ( any man can be a father; but it takes someone special to be a **DAD*)
I would think that it would not be possible to adopt an adult.
if she isn't married she could look into changing her name by deed poll.

Shes 30 years old ............adoption is for children that need to be raised, not for grown women!!

The hell with adopting her, show her you really love her. Put her in your will. That should do it.
