Well, I am probably going to blow my rating on this one because I do not have a website to recommend. However, I felt compelled to answer because I can help you. I, too, became confused when I began. I read all the material recommended for a beginner, and I just got more confused. They all seemed to leave something out or assumed that I knew something. Finally, I read, "The complete idiots guide to zen living." Its a great book and the authors assume you know nothing. It is hands down the most thorough book I have come across and is the perfect book to serve as an introduction. Now I can understand the others. Then, I recommend you read "Sitting Still" which you can buy used through amazon for $1.50. It will give you an idea what happens when you quiet your mind.

There are so many sites out there. try WWW.Buddhism Connect. Com- since I wouldn't know which might be best for you, I will suggest a book as well..."Buddhism in a nutshell"......Also, instead of just getting info from a website or a book etc.. On 'Buddhism Connect' you can E-mail questions, order books, Cd's. etc.
also check your local area for Buddhist temples, meditation groups etc. It would be nice to get questions personally answered, as well as instruction.....whatever your path....the Buddhist philosophy will only serve to enrich.....peace out!

Yeah same. i've read alot of Buddhism books since my dad is one and he's got a few books. i felt good after reading them but some parts of the book the explanations aren't that clear so i couldn't 100% understand any of them.
but i went to my uni bookshop one day and read Dalai Lama's book on forgiveness and it was amazing as he explain things step by step making sure you aren't lost and usually uses jargon where everyone can easily understand.
ps: i once read in Dalai lama's texts why sometimes its hard to understand because tibetan language and indian (i think) are more 'rich' in describing by comparison to other languages in the world. perhaps some stuff get lost in translation? its only my guess. hehe. dun take my word for it 100%.

To be a real Buddhist is a once in a million years oppertunity
Buddhist believe in Karma & Reincarnation (Cause & Effect)
Our next life is determined from the things we do in this life (Good, Bad)
We try to find the ultimate freedom by purifying our mind from any bad thoughts....and by gaining ultimate wisdom...and achieve Nirvana
We achieve this by Meditation
Our religion never shed blood in the name of religion
We believe every living things has the same right to live and our religion is opposed to killing of any living being (Animals, insects)
We don’t believe that god can bring us happiness or ultimate wisdom...........it’s our mind which can achieve anything....so we don’t worship GOD
We believe there is heavens and many other worlds in the universe
they don’t have any power on us they are worlds like us but only higher than us
When we die we go there according to our Karma. Nirvana is a state of mind, Its not heaven, we believe its better than heaven. Its ultimate bliss of mind
The next life is decided by the energy (Karma)....created by our mind. Nobody judges It, if we have good karma...good worlds….. bad karma...we go to bad worlds...its like water flowing down....its the way of the universe

Hi, I'd really like to recommend a wonderful book called "Transform Your Life" by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. You can find it on Amazon or on www.tharpa.org. Also www.kadampa.org has many useful pages. Good luck in your quest!

Might I recommend Mikyong Sipham's "Turning the Mind into an Ally?"
It should help answer some, though not all, of your questions.

just a simple, unimposing website that I found helpful. it gives you the basics, then if you're still interested, it gives you a list of other resources. you can skip the 'store' and the 'poll' section.
