Go check out Boney Island. It's not a house you can go into, but they do some great stuff outside and it's free. The guy who lives there works on the Simpsons.

Also, Toluca Lake on Halloween night it CRAZY. Rich folks who do special effects, and even some movie stars have their houses all tricked out. Some you can even go into. Full size candy bars for the kids! Aw yeah. But finding parking can be hard.
