I think one big difference between the early Christians and the Christians of today resides in the Bible.

We know that the (Catholic) Church did not make the official cannon of scripture till around the 4 century, so most of what Christians were basing their faith on was the church teachings of what they knew. Plus life back then was a lot more communal for the Christian. Being a persecuted minority they spent a lot of their life living the gospel, together, whereas the perception nowadays seems to be that the average Christian's spiritual life might only consist of a Sunday worship.

One of the greatest advantages a modern day Christian has....is the bible. We know the beginning, the middle, and the end of all history. The bible is truly a gift to this modern age. And God will give wisdom, discernment, and ears to hear His word to whomever truly seeks. The first church has the old testament, of course....and much later, as the letters of the apostles were added to scripture, they would copy them and send them to various churches in various part of the ancient world. But we have the completion of scripture, translated into hundred of languages, available even at our fingertips. A very, very great privilege.

Wha a great question. There are many things. For instance, the new age christians are not as dependant on Jesus because we can supply our own needs. Society tells us that there is not God and that truth is in the eye of the beholder. The first Centrury christians were hungry for somekind of truth, now a days we people know everything, and again are not so dependant on Jesus. "Lean not on your own understanding"

Quite a big difference actually. They witnessed about the Christ everywhere they were, they were hated and persecuted, they met in members homes instead of big elaborate churches, they didn't participate in war or festivities, and they got to use special gifts such as speaking in different tongues, prophesying, even got to witness a resurection.

Mainly the intensity in which they believe. Today its all about the biggest churches and who has the largest following. We have lost alot of the real meaning of faith.

I highly doubt that any of todays christians would really let themselves be tortured to death rather than convert--let's face it, they get offended and upset by what's on here, they're obviously not very strong when it comes to their faith--if they were truly secure in it they wouldn't care when somebody challenged their ideas
