Two things have shown up on ours that sound like this. If it's less than 1/2" across, it's most likely an advanced zit/blackhead that got infected, puffed up and was burst when he started scratching. It'll heal up in 3 days. If it's bigger, and really is a lump, it could be an abscess from a cat bite. One he scratched open to relieve the pressure, and pus will be coming out of it too. Use a kleenex to blot the discharge, and a damp or wet rag to dab on to clean the area. You'll be able to get a better look at it this way. If the rest of his jaw is fine, and he's got no nasal discharge, he probably doesn't need to be seen by a vet. Mosquitoes and fleas won't cause this. Putting chemicals onto the wound would NOT be a good thing. Let it air dry and keep it clean.

My cat had something like this when i was little... I remember they said it was called a "wolf", take your cat to your vet. its a worm that will continue to keep digging in farther and farther. It may not be this but I'd still take him to the vet ASAP!!!! wolf worms are small yellow and black worms that have the ability to burrow inside skin. They reproduce very, very quickly. When wolf worms are present, veterinary intervention is most important to rid the animal of this parasite and all of the present eggs. Antibiotic therapy and dewormers like Drontal or Nemex are often times used in the treatment of ridding the host of these parasites.

Hydrogen peroxide will keep it wet and softened up. There's a blue lotion you can get that is antibacterial, antiseptic and all that in one. I don't know the name of it though. Blue lotion is the only thing I've ever heard it called. You could ask about it at a local pet supply store or something though and they should be able to tell you what it is.

Hmmm, try going to a vet. I would hate to find out that it's something worse. Especially for a 15 year old cat. Possibly a tumor?

Probably started out as acne and could have manifested into an abcess, especially if he's been scratching at it.
Bring him to a veterinarian - you may want to get him on antibiotics - especially if he goes outside.

Its a Absis. You would have found that before the hole there was a hard bump, that builds up with blood and water and bursts and leaves a whole. if you get him checked out they will clean it out shave the hair and give you some cream t put on. you better get it sorted out quick cause it could get infected. let us know if you get it sorted out

it could be a worm that has infested itself in your cat. if it is one, you should be able to look at it while squeezing it gently, and if puss or bubbles comes out it is probably a worm. ive had cats get these before. i used a spray that i got from a local feed store for animals that is for hookworms, or you could just take to vet. perioxide won't help anything though.

sounds very much like an abcess. you should take that cat to the vet and pronto. It is cruel to wait. You should not try to treat it yourself.
