I want a cheap area, but that is good, looking for a hotel 3 stars or better, we are renting a car so transportation isent really an issue. We will be doing Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Downtown, TV Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, etc. (no Disneyland, did that last year).

Marina Del Rey is five minutes south of LAX, convenient to all highways and upscale with many good hotels. LA is a seedy, dangerous place if you end up in the wrong part. So heed this warning. MDR is also next to Venice Beach which is the 2nd biggest tourist attraction in LA next to Disney. MDR is also close to Santa Monica which has the outdoor Promede which is great shopping and resteraunts. Bev Hills is 20 minutes a way. Best studio to visit is WARNER Bros. hands down and they actually are shooting. Universal is a big tourist trap.

mmmmm well you could probably find something in the 3 star range closer to knotts berry farm, than you could BH and I wouldn't recommend staying downtown.. Try looking in Buena Park, Cerritos (near Knotts Berry Farm), You could try to find something near the Airport (ugh), but this would be centrally located. You could look in El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa, Redondo Beach (91 ends in Redondo takes you right to Knotts Berry Farm), Torrance. I wouldn't stay in the valley. But these cities are also near the beach.. ...

Go to any Denny's Restaurant and pick up a traveling guide
coupon book and you can pick from variety of hotels. That's what
we do if we don't want to stay with relatives. if they don't have
any guide coupons books then try cheap hotel.com

There is not good and cheap in L.A. Your best bet is to use an on-line service to look for one. We use expedia.com
