They way I see it, according to Christianity, we're all damned by original sin because Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge. But if this story isn't literally true, what do we need to be saved from?

Yes it is to be taken literally. everything written in Gods word has been recorded for us to take literally. Adam and Eve committed the 1st sin,(disobeying God and eating from the tree of knowledge). that is where sin originated. and it has been going on from there That is what we need to be saved from. SIN

Even substantial theologians have self belief that the advent tale of Adam and Eve is a ethical tale and could be considered as such. The debts in Genesis are contradictory to it quite is very own self. as nicely, the tale of Adam and Eve became taken from yet another faith that became lots older. this would not recommend that God did no longer create each little thing, in simple terms no longer in the way it is written.

Yes the story is literally true. When Adam and Eve sinned, that is when sin entered the world. We are then born with a sin nature. We don't pay for their sins though, it's our own that Jesus saves us from.

Possibly at one time it was, but most people today believe it is a myth, or an early attempt to explain the origin of man.I tend to believe the latter. Since I don't believe the story to be true then it must follow that I also do not believe in original sin.

You err in thinking that we are all damned by "original sin." We are not responsible nor damned for what Adam and Eve did. God gave them free agency by presenting them with a choice - eat the fruit and die, or don't eat the fruit. He also told them to multiply and replenish the earth. They HAD to eat the fruit and become mortal (subject to death) to obey God's commandment. Because of that, we are all subject to death but we are not born with sin, and not responsible for the sins of others. Men and women will be punished for their own sins and not for what Adam and Eve did. Had they NOT eaten of the fruit, we would not be here. They should be honored for their brave choice they made and the consequences they accepted to follow through with their mission. SATAN didn't know what God's true purpose was, so he THOUGHT he was tempting them, but it was part of God's plan all along. The joke is on the devil.

Yes! literal..flesh and blood..We came from them and we exist. So they must have.
You may be trying to find a link between this and the THEORY of Evolution.
For evolution to be true, [ which it is NOT] it would be necessary to somehow explain away the Adam and Eve story as a form of myth.

AS far as them being the first of the race called Israelites is concerned yes.
If they were the very first people on earth then where did the other tribes that they meet when the were escorted out of the Garden come from and why would God give them clothes of skins.
The Israelites are the ones that need to be saved.

Makes no sense that Adam and Eve's sin could be passed down, as it explicitly says in the Bible (infallible, right?) that the son cannot be punished for the sins of the father. But then we are. Riiight....

It is literally truth and all are born with the same nature as Adam and Eve, with a need for a saviour . . .

Yes it is litterally true.

Howver, your other question is what do we need to be saved from. The Bible says All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

God demands perfection something that is unattainable by man.

Even athiests would agree that we have all sinned.
