My family and closest friends have a tradtion that sometime around midnight (time isn't really important as intent) that we honor our friends and family that have passed on from this life. We also write down our hopes and wishes for the year to come and burn them. We save a copy and hide it from ourselves to look at the next year. It really helps review the year that has just passed us by.

I have a Dumb Supper. I use family dishes, since my family is Italian, I use favorite italian foods for my loved ones who have died.
And I leave it outside under a favorite tree. I also throw in Mead for an offering, and I leave out Scotch and roses for my Matron Goddess that night, and Honey for the Fae.

The tradition you just laid out is pretty much what I do at this time of year. I'm not big on the ceremonial rituals. I have never felt a need to do such things as I only see them as focal points.

Most pagans celebrate halloween, some samhain, I personally do both, most of the origins of samhain where passed onto it, as many holidays are.

I wouldn't consider myself to be a pagan, but I am going to attend a ritual on Halloween.

I'm going home to Orlando, to my first coven. (I live in NYC now.) We give out candy while everyone's getting settled in, then have a ritual, then have sort of a post-party, if you will.
