Black people and tipping (not meant to be racist)?

Okay, I have a question. And I am in no way trying to offend anybody. So here goes. Black people, why do you not tip your servers and delivery drivers? I mean when I was waiting tables, even the black servers hated waiting on black people. Once I even got into a fight with a black waitress over who would get that table. Servers make less then minimum wage so you can understand why servers hate wasting their time on people who dont tip. Tips are what they make their living on. So here is my question. Why?

Well people get in the waiting profession because there are tips. And btw, I gave great service, I actually have people who walk up to me on the street and they remember me from the service that I gave them. The reason that servers expect tips is because most people know that servers only make $2.13 and hour. In
America it is a social faux pas to not tip for good service. This is how we make our living, Ive worked with single mothers and this is how they put food on the table for their kids. It is down right crappy to not tip, especially for good service.

All im saying is that you should be courtious to other people. And no, you are not obligated to tip for bad service. But understand, this is how people make their living. This is how im putting myself through college. And if you ask any waiter, they will tell you that certain ethnic groups tip differently. Typically (and trust me, i had a friend who actually did statistics on his tips) african americans dont tip well. Rednecks dont tip well. Mexicans tip VERY well and they are very friendly to their servers. BTW, if you cannot be objective or cannot at least try and put yourself in somebody elses shoes for one minute then dont answer.

Its true, not all black people tip bad, but HOWEVER, more often than not it is. Also, how many people did you have at bennigans? If your group was over a certain number the resturant obligates the waiter/waitress to add a percentage tip.

also, to be not racially bias, Frat boys and sorority girls tip really lousy and we alllll know they have enough to throw a few pennies your way.

You didn't mean to be racially predjudice, but your question itself is racially bias as if all black people don't tip. But nevertheless, for a fact a waitress with a bad attitude whether blatant or covert, will not get good tipping from most black people or I bet other races as well. And is tipping mandatory at your establisment? I know places like bennigans that includes tips in the bill itself, which suggests tipping at that particular establishment is mandatory. Maybe your black customers don't feel obligated to. Who knows it could be a number of things. But, it's hard for me to believe that all of your black customers simply don't tip. Come on.

I am black and I am not a bad tipper. Here is my issue: I have received mediocre or horrendous service (and I am not talking about the food since they are not cooking it). Am I expected to tip when the waiter barely speaks, then doesn't come back to see if we need anything, and then just drop the check on the table without asking if we want dessert or how the food was? My best experiences are with wait staff that take care of the customer. Can I get a water refill without asking? It's water, for Chrissakes! Refilling my water, checking back at least twice to see if I need something, and at least act like you want to be bothered. When service is this good, I will tip 20%. My friends (except one) are the same way, and they are primarily black people, and educated. You are making a broad statement that does not apply to everyone. Bad service does not warrant a good tip. I have actually told waiters the reason when I've given them no tip!

I ve been delivering pizzas for 2 months now, and so far I ve seen tips from about 6% of the blacks and 95% of whites. I have a theory about it, but feel free to tell me I m an idiot. I think blacks don t tip because over time they ve been taught that someone owes them something. I ve seen this attitude from the black people I ve worked with over my 31 year working career. This contrasts how most of the rest of us (I m half white, half American-Indian) were raised, and that is nobody owes you anything. I appreciate the work that waiters/waitresses/delivery folks do. Unless I m treated rudely, I tip 15-20%.

I tip and I tip well. I do not tip if the service is crappy. and god knows sometimes it is. You say that sometimes servers argue about having to serve black people. WELL maybe same servers who didn't want to do it in the first place come to the table with attitude of "I don't want to serve you but i have to" and the black people they are serving in turn do not tip the bad attitude waitress. a self-fulfilling prophecy?? Assumptions always make an *** of you and if waitresses are assuming that all black people don't tip well it will be true.

You make it seem like all black people don't tip.
That's wrong- I'm am African American and to be honest most of the time I make it a point to over tip. I understand how hard wait staff work and I make sure they are paid very well for their services. You say you don't mean to sound racist, but that's still how you come off- you are putting all African Americans into the same boat. That's like me asking white parents how come they all feel like blacks are good enough for their children to be friends with but at the same time say just don't marry "them"
I've heard that statement before several times from several white parents- but I know that all Caucasians don't feel that way.
so my point is not all black people are bad tippers and it's rude of you to insinuate it as such.

Ya know around here the black people dont go out and eat much but the native americans doo all the time and hardly ever leave a tip...Not just that they leave huge messes and never control their children...So I understand what you mean just with a different race...and its not a racist remark just the damn truth...

Dude whatever dont listen to them...I mean yeah its wrong for people not to tip even if they cant afford it..If they cant afford it then they should get the food to go...

I know that servers make their living in tips, but why as a server do you EXPECT a tip?? Tipping is a 'thankyou" for excellent service given to the customer. I am not African American, But I don't tip bad servers!!!! (I am not assuming that you are a bad server, I am just wondering why you expect a tip from every table you wait on)
