Say you're in a long term relationship and so far you have the higher sallary. One day your girlfriend comes home and says that she got a job that she applyed for doing the same job as you in the same building and making the same amount of money.

I'll be able to talk work with her and be on the same page! but I can see trouble in the future though!

It would make me proud of her. This is 2006, most couples, married or otherwise, both work. There is nothing wrong with equal earnings, or even when the balance is lopsided. I hope that most of us bring more than just money to our relationships. Believe me, the same building part would freak me out long before anything to do with money became an issue. It is OK to be close, but most people like to keep work and home separate.

I don't see the issue here, generally people like the idea of having more money to spend within a relationship.
