there is a tequila called "cabo wabo" which is manufactured in mexico by sammy haagar of all people. It's actually very excellent. it's a little expensive, but incredibly smooth and refreshing. I would definitely give it my recommendation.

Everyone has their favorites, but here are three simple rules when you go to the store:

1) Buy 100% Agave tequila if you can. This is the real stuff. Anything containing at least 51% Agave can legally be called Tequila (including Jose Cuervo), but that's the cheap stuff. Anything with 100% agave will advertise it.

2) The more aged, the more flavor it usually is. "Anejo" (with a "~" over the n) is the most aged, followed by "Reposado", and the youngest being just labelled as "silver" or "gold". For drinking straight, go for the aged stuff, but young tequila is fine if you're just making Margaritas.

3) As with most things in life, you usually get what you pay for. The better stuff is usually more expensive.

I happen to like Patron tequila a lot:

But there are plenty of other great brands, all have been making authentic Tequila in Mexico for decades if not centuries. If you really want to find something perfect for you, go to the bar and order a few shots side by side and compare them yourself.

Good luck!

I have tried just about every TEQUILA on the market. Depends on your purpose... Are you trying to show off, drink what is trendy, or do you want a quality product at a reasonable price? If the latter is your quest then you cannot beat "Sauza Blanca". It is a clear tequila,as it should be, without the carmalization for the Gold coloring. That just ruins the taste of what Tequila should be. I could recommend lots of fancy names that come in fancy bottles that are good. But if you want the most "bang for you buck" go with this one. It has a great taste, smooth finish, and doesn't leave you with a raging hang-over like the gold crap. It's less than $15 A BOTTLE AND BY FAR THE BEST DEAL ON THE MARKET....Just a thought.... Cheers........Peace.....

The best Tequila at most grocery stores is patron orange or green label - but watch out because it's not cheap.

Patron Silver. Quite expensive, but very smooth. Perhaps the best available.

I agree with treehead. Cabo Waba is the best. It blows Cuervo away.

Here's your list: Patron, Herradura, Don Julio, Don Eduardo, Lapiz, Cazadores.

They all have in common three things: they are 100% blue agave, they are expensive (that's a good thing) and available in broad distribution.
Drink it at room temperature and in a good company. !Salud!
