I am looking to buy a toyota corolla and I have never delt with a toyota dealer before. Some of the dealers I have been too lately seem to give me the run around. I know i will find that at most dealerships but I want to get the best car for my price range. What are good things and bad things about the toyotas?

Consumers Reports lists Toyota service very low. But, unless you get into the luxury cars (like Lexus), that is the lot of most all car service places. They are on average poor.

On the other hand, Consumers Reports rates all models of Toyota, including the Corolla, as above or well above average in reliability and other features (like drive train, safety, body integrity, braking, handling). And that is my personal assessment as well.

My wife and I have owned only Toyotas since the mid-1960s, when I bought my first one...a Corolla. Since then we've had: Corona, Camry, Celica, Avalon, and Prius. And we also owned a Lexus, which is kind of a Toyota since it's built by a company owned by Toyota.

All of these Toys have been super. Super reliable, super low-cost maintenance, and super fun to drive. In fact, truth be known, the Lexus was the least fun to drive because it drove like a truck. We started with GM and Chrysler cars before the 60's, but they were far less reliable and entailed high maintenance costs. We've never left Toyota after the first one...the Corolla.

My point is this...Toyotas are worth putting up with idiot car dealers. Just keep shopping around to find one who responds to your needs. Once you own a Toy, I think you'll find the shopping hassle was worth it.

Dealers are dealers, and salesmen are salesmen. That being said, there are the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between.

What you need to do is to take control and stop being run around. My advice would be to seek out the internet sales manager. You're much less likely to get a bunch of b/s, but, once again, it could happen. It's all about the odds tho.

The question I have for you is this, do you know that the corolla is the car you want or are you still undecided?

If you know it's the one you want, then simply get on the internet and find a dealer near you, then start working out from there. You want at least 3 proposals if you can get it, but more is better, on the corolla of your choice, with the equipment you want.

If you don't know, and you still want to shop around, then check out what Honda has in the Civic and the Fit. Also, check out the Nissan Sentra and Versa, and the Scions (made by toyota). When you land on the vehicle you want, go up to the part where it says, "If you know it's the one you want...." and start from there.

Don't listen to their b/s. Tell them what you want to do, be firm but polite. There are plenty of salesmen out there are extremely professional and will be a joy to work with, but there are plenty that aren't too. One thing you can do is call the dealership and ask to speak to the top salesman. He/She got that way by serving their customers the right way, and have stayed put there for many years. You do not want one of the job hopping comission junkies, you want a pro.

If they still don't treat you the respect and service you expect, then find another dealership.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS: Suzuki and Kia. I know they're cheap, but they'll cost so much more in the long run. Toyota and Honda cost more because they are worth it. They are safe, economical to run, and when you're done with the car, there will be a line of people trying to buy it from you. You could practically put synthetic oil in it, weld the hood shut, and drive it till the wheels fall off. They really are everything they are cracked up to be. For example: There are more corollas on the road, driving around right now, than Hyundai has sold cars (from their entire model selection) since their inception in the early 80's!!!!

Check http://www.edmunds.com to see what the cars cost, what incentives are available (it's slow in October, so that's good news for you), and all kinds of other usefull info.

-good luck.

If you ask me, I'd say Toyota is probably one of the best make of cars and extremely reliable! They last for a very long time and they don't generally have faults or problems! I'd recommend them, especially the Toyota corolla! Very good car!

I hear they are really good cars. Toyota has very good consumer reports. I had a corolla just for a winter beater car..it was old and crappy, but the thing never let me down. It always started and I didn't even put oil in it and the motor never burned up!

I love my 03 toyota corrolla...its been in 2 major accidents totaling $17,000 in damages and it runs perfect still, not one single problem. And the body shop did an amazing job, you cant even tell it was ever in an accident. I bought mine from a dealer and it was originally a rental car so it had 30,000 miles on it when i got it, but I got it for like $5,000 cheaper and its a GREAT car.
