I was worried about this also when my husband and I were planning our wedding. Its really not as hard as you might think. Alot of officiants do civil ceremonies for couples that are not a specific religion. If you have an officiant in mind that you would like to marry you two then just be honest with them that you and your fiance are not a specific religion and the officiant should have no problem marrying the two of you. If you don't have an officiant yet I would go to www.theknot.com and look up officiants in your area and just call a few of the ones that you like and talk with them. Whatever officiant the two of you pick you want to be completely comfortable with them and make sure that they know and understand exactly what you and your fiance want. I hope this helps you out. Good Luck and Congratulations

Hi there,
We got married this year and we didnt get married in a church but used a celebrant to officiate. In Australia where we live there are wedding celebrants that specialise in performing wedding ceremonies, maybe you have the same thing where you live?
I think the best way to choose an officiant is to go and meet with them, find out what sort of ceremonies they give and find out if you are comfortable with their style and approach.
We met with 2 celebrants before we met a lady that had a wonderful warm manner and ended up giving us a beautiful wedding service.
Good luck finding someone that makes your wedding day very memorable.

You can have a friend perform the ceremony. Anyone can be "sworn-in" as a temporary Justice of the Peace and can then perform a wedding. My wife and I did it in Sacramento. We're not religious and have a way cool friend who did the ceremony - he even wrote it. It was great! Call the local courthouse or even wedding chapels and they can probably give you details. Otherwise, a ship captain, judge, or someone official can probably go through the process and perform the ceremony.

Go to your nearby court house, they have legal officiants there. It`s very simple . You pick the place and they will even meet you there. Even though you are not religious, you are doing all the right things to mke it legal. they are very open minded and that`s why there is this kind of another choice. My wedding was simple. we looked all over just for a place to get married, by that time stress builds, dates and times seem impossible to connect. you want to get married not have a fight before you get there, check it out

I struggles with this same issue, but you can use a judge, or justice of the peace, there are also non denominational officates (whichis what i used if you in the ny area) Or if you are not in the state of ny you could have a friend or family memeber get ordained online from the california life church (or some name like that) and they can marry you. It is leagal in most staes i know it isn't in ny because i checked. Good luck

You can use a justice of the peace. Or a non-denomination preacher. Or even a judge to perform a wedding. Some ministers will marry you even if you do not have a specific religion.

Sometimes a Judge will come to your wedding site.
Even a close friend can become ordained online.

Have a friend or family member become an ordained minister. That's what we are doing for our wedding. Good luck!

You can ask a Judge, Justice of the Peace, or in some states a Notary Public to marry you.

We had a justice of the peace. You can call your court house for a list of names.

Interview them all and see who you feel comfortable with. Ask around too in case they have heard anything. (my friend didnt and the JP showed up at her wedding drunk with his dog with him AND covered in dog hair...also mispronounced her name thru the whole thing even when we corrected him)
