L2 and L3 disk fusioned and L4 rupsured. What damage will it cause to me?

My mum has two discs in her back that are fused. She generally has some pain associated with that and the fact that she has a degenerative disc. A degenerative disc will probably need to be replaced through surgery later down the road, according to the doctor, but thankfully, Mum has not had to have that done.
