Most folks in mid-west towns--including those in Kansas--are pretty informal and friendly. The idea to take--or have one of your kids take--cookies, bread or another baked item to your new neighbors is a good idea.

The idea of having a party or a get-together is also a good idea. Depending on where you live, a cook out in your backyard would probably be well-received. You could also invite your neighbors over for dessert--like hot apple pie and ice cream--some evening. (Pumpkin pie would also be a treat this time of year with Thanksgiving happening in a few weeks.) Or, if you want to do more, have the neighbors over for chili or a favorite soup. If you are from another country, you might give your gathering an international spin by having a dessert or another favorite food from your country featured for your neighbors to enjoy with you.

If you decide to have a party of some type, when you have decided on what you are going to do, send a friendly, yet simple invitation to your neighbors about 10-days to a week before. Include the date, place and time of your gathering--and your family's name-- and write this information in a way that can easily be read. You might want to put your home phone number in your invitation for your neighbors to have. It would be OK if you made your invitations on the computer. If you lack confidence in your language skills to do this, you might ask a good friend--maybe from your work or from your church--who knows English well to look over your invitation before you send or deliver them.

You or another member of your family could deliver this invitation personally to the homes of your neighbors. Those you find at home will see a smiling face from your family and, most likely, will accept your invitation. Many will ask you if they might bring something to your party--so, think about how you will answer this question when you are asked.

If you have a party and invite your neighbors, don't be terribly disappointed if some of your neighbors are not able to come to your house on the date you planned. People everywhere are very busy--sometimes it takes awhile to get to know our neighbors.

Hope this helps! Good luck in Kansas!

A letter?? How about making some cookies or baking something with a little card saying who you are? You don't need to give the neighbors a bio.

I lived in KS most of my life, when i want to meet neighbors i like to bake something sweet then take it over to them. Or send my kid over with the goodies. Most people like homemade sweets. If they don't they will tell you and already you found out something about them.
or have a BBQ and invite them, The yummy smell will bring most of them running over.
good luck. and have fun with it.
Christmas is coming, Take them over a
Christmas Card

You may have lived in Texas, but you are not from there.
That's not the way we do things in America.
