I have these sore red bumps on my scalp on occasion. I get 1 to 3 at a time usually and they can be as small as a pea, or as large as a nickel. They are usually filled with a cream colored pus and blood. If I press hard enough on them (which is very painful) they will eventually burst, but it takes a lot of effort to break them. They don't have a head to them like a zit does and they are extremely tender. Where the bumps are small bald patches appear afterward. It's so strange. I was planning on going to the dr, but I am a little frightened and wanted to see if anyone has experienced this or knows what it could be. They don't really itch much, just really sore and uncomfortable. Thankyou so much for any advice you can offer me!! :)

It almost sounds like your getting boils on your scalp or probably infected hair bumps. You need to see a doctor to tell for certain. It could be something as minor as an allergy to a haircare product. Also try to avoid ponytails, braids or anything that pulls on the scalp. If its hair bumps you there is a liquid you can put on the bumps when they are small to keep them from getting infected and swelling. If it is a boil using a warm compress will help it come to a head and make it easier to bust. Wash your hair and avoid hair products until the situation clears up. Use an antibiotic ointment like Neosporin on the bump.

The bald patch is a result of the skin being stretched out. it usually grows back a week or so after the bump is gone.

Could be a mole or just skin formed from rubbing/friction. I would see the dermatologist about it just in case. If it is a little "nub" they can easily remove it in the office. If it is irritated your shampoo or other hair product could be causing it. I would check with the doctor.
