I'd suggest IMing her at least once a day, if nothing else just respond to her away message, send a cute "hey there, just thinking about you" kind of thing, nothing smothering. I'd suggest calling her once or twice a week, you need to also see her so I'd suggest going to some events with her once or twice every couple weeks (there are TONS of things to do on a normal college campus). Build up the friendship with the relationship and both will be stronger.

If it’s a new relationship, stay back a little. Call once a week to start, and then if you see her on IM, send a quick note but not every day. Allow some chemistry tension to build slowly. In any relationship, someone is always moving forward while the other person is moving away. It’s a dance… both individuals should share in the movement and enjoy both places. If one person rushes in all the time… the other one can only retreat and move away. So feel your way through the movement and tease a little and then give a little. In time if it needs to be more serious, you will both be on the same page about this.

I try to talk to my boyfriend everyday. Sometimes its for an hour, sometimes it's for a few minutes just to say hi and how was your day.

Ask her how often she wants to talk. That way you won't have to guess!
