I doubt that there are very many genuine atheists. By definition, atheist means that there is no God. The person claiming to know that there is no God has to know everything there is to know in order to know that there is no God.

Oops. Knowing everything is omniscience, one of the attributes of God.

There are somethings that one can't NOT know. Right and wrong, cheating and fairness, love and hate. Murder is wrong, stealing is wrong, lying is wrong, etc.

Looking at the universe, so finely tuned in it's magnificent beauty, how can one deny the existence of God? Simply by deciding that you don't want there to be a God, whatever the evidence may be. Look into your heart, and you see all the things you really don't want anyone to know about you, and label those things "sin."
From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 4:17

Isn't it a stupid thing to assume that christians assume that any non-christian must be an atheist?

I am a Christian... My opinion is you claim to be an Atheist you are an Atheist. If you are not a Christian you can be one of a number of things... You can be Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, and one of many other religions. You can also have no religion at all. It don't mean that you are an Atheist it means that you are not a religious person. To be an Atheist you believe that there is a supreme being but don't believe that it is God. If you fit in that category then you are an Atheist.

I don't, being quite familiar with world religions.

Why lump all Christians together...AGAIN?

Is it stupid to assume? It's myopic and unfortunate. I am not sure if it is an intellectually based problem or a knee-jerk problem. It depends on the individual.

I work in a bookstore, and what I like even better is when they ask for the "religion section." I know good and well that by "religion" they mean, "Christianity," but I'm always sure to show them the Buddhism, Hindu, Jewish, and Islamic sections as well.

I don't assume this. I have friends that are not Christian. It doesn't mean they are athiest. It just means that they haven't yet recieved the chance to experience God.

this is the most abusrd thing I have ever heard. I am a Christian and I have never thought that way. I'm sorry you've seem to come in contact with some confused Christians. Please do not think we are all alike.

Well, yeah, I'd say so. Just because you don't believe what I do doesn't mean you don't believe in something else. Good luck with the FSM thing... Lots of meatballs to you.

I don't assume that and I am a Christian.

Actually, I am so busy trying to keep my own life satisfying to Christ---I can't think about your religion.
