LOL I think you're right, that you've been indoctrinated with Pixar...I wonder that sometimes too, though...but I think that they don't truly have the capacity to think as sophisticated as we do. They operate mostly on instinct.

Not a stupid question. Just observe more and watch PBS shows once in a while.
The only thing I can add to the other comments is Koko the Gorilla. Hope you have heard of her from National Geographic.
She's amazing and there was another...Mike (I think) he did wonderful paintings.

My feeling is that we just perceive our thoughts as the basis to gauge every other living things' intelligence. I bet dolphins and whales are far more sophisticated than we are but we study them by our standards. They know how to live (except 'man' has polluted their world) Think of it... freely swimming around, no possessions to worry about few or no predators (criminals), no job, family and friends with you all the time having fun, eating together etc... you see what I mean? No worries, no stress.

I doubt it. We are the only ones who know that there is a difference between us and the inanimate. Does the kitchen chair that you stub your toes on in the dark at night enjoy the thought of causing you pain...? no, it is not capable of sophisticated thought like that. Neither are animals, not even the so-called 'higher' animals

No but chimpaznees and apes somewhat do!... im taking Anthropology and my teacher said that us and some primates are like the only self aware species. Like the only reason that I know that other animals and insects dont think like humans cuz they wouldnt look across the street when crossing one. Like a squrriel just runs across... ya know. I would just consider them as a bunch of nervs that react! lol......Hope im making sense lol.

Although some domestic animals I wonder. Because I have had several pets if they could get to the person that has done them wrong they would be really hurt.

they dont have the same complexity of a brain as us humans. those are animations, like cartoons, not real life. also insects cant speak english either. they have their own language. they cant dance either, they cant do the "Hakuna Matata" in real life.

no they don't. they don't have a sophisticated brain like ours, meaning that they can only do things to live. no leisure or feelings at all. they do feel pain though so watch out!! don't step on them :P
