... perhaps the only surviving of a species of ape that is so close to humans that it prefers to walk upright. Oliver famously (and creepily) repeatedly tried to mate with one of his female keepers.

All primates are genetically very similar, but that's all it takes. It takes a while to determine the orgins of a species and to even classify a new find as a distinct species. There are a number of possibilities to be considered. I'm in the biology field and it hasn't made huge waves, at least not yet. Primates in general are bipedal by the way and often walk upright. Also a number of dogs have tried to perform certain acts with my leg at times so I wouldn't put much into that.

Fact: Oliver was a chimp. We don't know how he was raised, but his teeth were pulled. Would the people who did that punish him for walking on four legs until he only walked on two? As for mating, your argument falls apart every time a dog humps someone's leg.

Er, hello *knock knock* your own link to Wikipedia points out that Oliver was a chimpanzee, not a different "species".

Not that I'm anti-evolution...quite the opposite. But, check up on your myths before you report them.

My opion is........he's an ape with his teeth removed. read the reports. it tells you that his teeth are removed. that gives him the apearance of flatened human like face. As to him liking and acting like humans..studies are showing that if humans are raise like animals in the first yrs, they act like animals. So why cant chimps raised like humans act like humans. Oliver was raised by a woman. not in a zoo with other chimps. God created animals and then humans. It does not say anything about animal like humans or human like animals in the bible. Read and find out for your self.
