Buddhism does not require a belief in God. It's a long topic to go into without a more specific question. Try Wikipedia's article.
Also, Stephen Batchelor has written an excellent book entitled "Buddhism without Belief." It's only about 100 pages but describes the teaching and practice in terms very easy for westerners to understand.
Also Karen Armstrong's biography of Buddha offers a scholarly summary of the Buddhist canon.

It is possible to believe in God and still follow the 8Fold Path, 4 Noble Truths and all that come with it. I think you need to keep in mind that Buddhism is a philosophy and not a religion. Also, keep in mind the call for Buddhists to be tolerant of ALL religions. Belief in God really is irrelevant in Buddhism. Is that the question you wanted answered?
BTW, I am a practicing Buddhist-deist.

Buddist, are people looking to better themselves. The basic philosophy is "false hopes and desires cause unhappiness".
As a buddist you are living a belief system, not following a religion. There are many sects of Buddism.....each path is directed by the cultures blief system.
To a Buddist thier is no God per se. The true Buddist is looking to attain peace and happiness.

I understand he was a very good person and is dead now.It wouldn't hurt for all of us to follow someone who sets a good example, but gods don't die in my book , they conquer even death.
