I have been contemplating getting a perm. But, I don't want the spiral perm of the 80's. I want big, loose curls just to add bounce and body to my hair. My hair is very strait and slick and on the thin side. What should I ask for at the salon? Any suggestions?

I am driving the boat that you ae in. Unfortunatley, there are no good perms for your and my hair. It will all look poodley on our hair, so I would invest in hot rollers. I have had the best luck with them, and you can also alternate between curly or straight that way, once you get a perm you are committed to poodle hair. ALSO, hot rollers are way less damaging to thin hair, and not as big of a pain in the butt as you would think once you get used to rolling your hair. I can put them in before I put on my makeup and take them out after I am done and they are perfect. I really like Conair's Velvet Rollers, they are all the same size in diameter, and the velvet helps hold thin hair into place. Just rub some mousse in your hair after washing, blow dry and the set your hair. I love them!

I wouldn't recommend you to get a perm.
I got a perm last year and I honestly regret getting it in the first place. The chemicals completely dried out my hair. I also have straight, thin, and long hair.
Also after getting the perm... after washing my hair I'd brush it and was left with something almost like an afro. I had done the perm with medium sized rollers at the salon.
*But if you really want to get a perm... find a good salon and consult your stylist.

That kind of look is achieved using rollers or hair curlers rather then a perm. Perms are usually all over tight curls. Your hairdresser can do it for you but it won't last more then a day!

I wouldn't recommend getting a perm. I have always wanted curly hair and was going to perm my straight, long, thin hair. But different stylists and friends advised me not to and instead I just curl my hair with a curling iron. Perms are really drying and changes the texture of your hair.

you will want to get a body perm..will help add volume to thin hair making it appear fuller...but be carefull..using too large of a rod on too long of hair will be a waste of time..the weight of the long hair will just pull the curl out.. talk to your stylist and take a picture with you of the style your wanting if you can find one...

good luck...

Wave perm will look good for you! Just remember to use volumizing conditioner later while I would also recommend that you browse this site http://www.upkb.com/hair-restoration.php for haircare tips and hair-restoration products.
