A&D is the best, then just start using regular lotion.

NO antibiotic cream. Overheals the skin and fades the ink!! Leave the tat dry for the first 24 hours after u get it. Then use unscented lubriderm a few times a day for a week or 2. It will keep your new tat lookin awesome!!

I work in a tattoo shop and we sell unscented Lubriderm. It works wonders. Just remember no lotion for the day of and the day after you get your tattoo.Use the lotion for as long as you need. After it's healed make sure to wear sun block on it for at least the first six months to keep it from fading.

NO ANTIBIOTIC CREAM!!!

listen up people.....getting tattoos is like having an open wound. if you fell and scraped your arm do you put lotion on it?? of course not. antibiotics creams will not fade your tat. the sun is the only thing that will fade your tat. amazing the amount of ignorance about ink, especially from these people who say they work in tat shops.....it almost makes me speechless. wow. a&d until the redness goes away, then lotion and keep it out of the sun or use sunblock religeously.

Vasoline/petroleum jelly can pull the color out of your tattoo.

"All different brands of lotions contain different ingredients - some that are OK, but some that can be very damaging to a new tattoo. Watch the ingredients - lanolin is an ingredient some will use, and lanolin causes allergic reactions in a lot of people. Lanolin is the natural oil that comes from sheep's wool - if you're allergic to wool sweaters, you're going to be allergic to lanolin! Some also contain products such as (unpurified) bee's wax, which can clog pores and even contain contaminants. First and foremost, your tattoo needs to be clean, and it needs to breathe. If the pores are clogged, its going to cause infection. If you must use lotion, find one that is free of dyes and fragrances. "

For the first week you want to apply a very thin coat of vitamin D ointment then you can apply lubriderm unscented normal to dry skin lotion over the tattoo daily.

actually i don't really think it's wise to use lotions on it yet! I say just use some A&D ointment and keep it clean! It worked for me. I've been getting tattooed for about 2 years now! It keeps the color very well!

For a new tattoo use H2Ocean tattoo foam. This stuff is great. It helps with the itching. My tattoos have healed quicker with the H2Ocean.
