In nature, horses are vegetarians and are preyed upon by other carnivorous birds and animals. That’s why when a horse grazes, he is constantly grazing and looking up after a few bites. A combination of muscle relaxation and looking around for birds and animals who feed on the horse in nature.

The horse is food because of his diet and size. Also, the food-meat, derived from a horse is usually tender as you can visibly see there is not muscle behind the horses canon bone, (humans calf muscle is absent on a horse).

As animals migrate from one area to another, the animals often cross over dangerous paths. Deer, caribou, horses are all migrating animals and follow the richness of the grass and greenery of nature. As the greenery dies in the north, the food, grass, begins to become attractive in warmer climates. So, birds, animals either migrate as well or simply wait for the food to come by and grab the animals (horse, caribou, etc) for the tasty meat,

Often horses and others need to cross large amounts of water and find themselves victims of prey by alligators, crocodiles, etc.

If the whale or shark is small enough and the body of water is deep enough, horses and other four legged creatures migrating can become food for creatures who live in the waters where any animals migrate and need to cross to get to the other side of the bank.

To answer your question on a serious note...birds (vultures) and whales do come across the horses when the horses migrate from one area to another which often takes weeks to cross in which the horses cross paths with the meat eaters of nature.
