I am new to the DoD Civillian workforce. I recently graduated with a business degree and got hired as an Item manager (program GS 7/9/11) on a major weapon system. I was asked to accompany The CG and four other bigwig civillians on a two day trip to observe training of the soldiers on my weapon system.
There are about 8 supervisors betwen him and myself and I am brand new. This is incredibly intimidating. Obviously I greatfully accepted, but what do I do now? What do I say? Do I wear a suit? Anyone have suggestions?
By the way, I just found out today (10/26) and the trip is Monday (10/30)
Also, feel free to post questions that you would find interesting to have answered by someone knowledgeble. If I ask him I'll post the answer here.

I just had a job planing trips for generals in Kuwait. Most people did not ware suits. If you are going to observe Soldiers Training DO NOT Ware as Suit. Most Civilians that travel with 4 stars are Waring Mainly Khakis and collard shirts occasionally slacks and a tie.
Check with someone you work with about what to ware, it depends where you are going and they will be able to tell you what is appropriate.
4 stars are just people. Incredibly successful people who are the top 1 one hundredth of a percent in their field, but they are still people. Let him start the conversation or the other people on the trip. If their is a pause in conversation all generals like to be masters of current events just ask him how he thinks (that day's headline in the international section) will effect the current operating environment.

You are in a tight situation, sir. Be natural and from the heart when you speak, anyone who has made it that far in the Army if an expert in social skills and can detect any sign of something rehearsed or not ginuine. Aprox. 3hrs before you see him take two shots of crown royale and have rough, long, passionate sex and everything will be fine without a doubt Just do it.

I would ask him for a generals coin! I'm in the air force and how great would it be to get coin checked and have a 4 star coin?!
Id also ask what's going on with the war. As a 4 star you know he/she knows more than you. I ask him/her to tell me classified info just to know. I wouldnt do anything with the info, id probably forget it. I forget my classifed info a lot.
Id also wonder what they make ($) as a 4 star
