I have dogs and cats. My oldest, a rotweiler named Zoe, has taken to regularly peeing on my carpet. Sadly my carpet was brand new a year ago and has been shampooed so many times. I have people coming over this weekend an will die of embarassment if they see my carpet in the state it is in now, not to mention the smell.

Do you know of a good shampoo? Should I rent a steamer or is just a shampooer okay? Should I concider lifting the carpet and mopping the pad underneith? Any tips would be much appreiciated. Thank you!

Absolutely you need to lift the carpet and lean underneath. You can try Nil Odor or Nature's Miracle...both available at your local pet store and can be used on the carpet and the floor.

Additionally, Borax works well for urine smell...we had to use it when my geriatric dog urinated on our mattress. Work it in with a damp cloth (both sides of your carpet) let it dry and vacuum it out.

I have heard of a product called Urine Gone that is suppose to work wonders. But I have never seen it in stores around where I live. There is a remedy that I heard off of animal planet that was to use white vinegar and warm water. The down fall to that is your house will smell pickled. But I guess if it helped, it may be worth a try. But I love to steam clean any discolored spots in carpet with a little gain mixed with oxye clean to lift the stain. The gain dose cover smell nicely. Be sure if you do use the gain with oxye that you don't get to many bubbles going or it could be tough to dry. Try a test spot on the carpet before you do a large area. Scrub with a brush and then mop out the soiled water with a damp cloth a few times. I would not take the carpet up to mop the padding because it will not be able to dry and will cause molding and more smell. But if all Else fails, it may be easier to replace the carpet and padding, because even if the dog never pees in the same spot again the old stains may still resurface awhile after every cleaning. And when you have all the padding and carpet up it would be a good time to clean the floor before laying the new. Hope this helps!

vinegar + water
Urine-B-Gone
Spray febreze fabric refresher to take away smell, reduce allergens, and is safe around pets
There are many carpet cleaners out there. There was one that I used for cat throw up and it worked very well. It took away the stain and I sprayed with lysol and everything was gone. I don't know what it was called though. It was a white bottle with red lettering and I think we got it at PetSmart. Yes go to PetSmart or PetCo or a Pet Supplie Store near you and they will definitely have one.

They also have those carpet cleaner places but those are very expensive so I would recommend going to a pet store.

Use a pet cleaner that is enzyme based. It will break down the urine. Make sure it soaks into the pad too.

The only way to be sure it's 100% gone is to remove the carpet and pad and treat the floor beneath thoroughly.
