It depends on the type of crown. I have 4 veneers on my upper 4 front teeth (cosmetic, to close a gap -$3600.00), and have to be careful biting with those teeth. Mine have lasted 1 1/2 years so far and I'm very careful eating (dont eat corn right off the cob etc)
I get regular checkups and cleanings done and they look great.
I too, was shocked at how my front teeth were prepped prior to the veneers being cemented on, and I know that if they ever come off, there wont be any smiles till they're fixed again!!
If you are careful, no chewing on Milk Duds, Caramels, etc ;-), your crown should last several years if prepped, positioned and cemented properly, and if the tooth is viable.
Good luck!

I certainly have had 2 everlasting crowns executed. One lasted for roughly 10 years and the different has been in for roughly 6 years. The dentist informed me that if I brush and floss oftentimes (2X an afternoon) that they might final continuously. they might desire to final as long as conceivable considering that's a alternative the tooth. The crown I lost became on an greater the tooth and it cracked below the gum line. they had to do an extraction - so now i visit the two want a bridge or an implant interior the spot. Leaning in the direction of the implant. i'm unsure why you like crowns - yet whilst it extremely is using fact of root canals, that's an outstanding theory to get them executed using fact the rootless the tooth will ultimately get brittle and might crack or might desire to be pulled.

This is very individual. I have MANY patients who have had their crowns for over 25 years. I still have many of my father's patients who had crowns done before I became a dentist 30 years ago and they still have them.

HOW LONG CROWNS LAST DEPENDS ON SEVERAL FACTORS. GOLD CROWNS FOR THE BACK TEETH HAVE THE FEWEST PROBLEMS. CAPTEK (PORCELAIN OVER PRECIOUS GOLD) CROWNS ARE A VERY GOOD CHOICE FOR MOST OTHER AREAS. HOW WELL YOU CARE FOR THEM WILL MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

If you have a porcelain crown, it should last over twenty years.
