For the past several years I have noticed that my hair changes colors with the seasons. I have never dyed it. In midwinter it is brown-dark brown, in the summer it goes to a honey brown. Spring and fall it is working towards one or the other.
I am pretty sure this is caused by sun exposure. I am outside a lot in the summer, and in the winter I am inside. The more sun I get, the blonder my hair gets.

I think it depends on the color of the hair and how often the person is out in the sun, and where you live. Lighter shades of hair such as light brunnettes, and particularly blonds get lighter when they are out in the sun or during the summer when the sun is out more. Dark hair..such as black or dark brown is less resistant to changes caused by the UV rays, but a lot of sun can still damage and brown it. Overall...I think no one but the owner of the hair will notice the slight difference in their hair color due to the sun. I'm sure your friend is telling the truth, but maybe making it sound like her hair is going from brown to blond, when in reality it might just be brown with some highlights thrown in.

Yes it CAN happen. In summer my hair turns a really light blonde. My natural hair color is dark blonde. And in spring it turns more blonde. In winter and Fall it turns to my natural hair color.

Mine does. And every so often, just for fun, I guess, it goes completely white...and then the color grows back out again. Drives me NUTS.

more exposure to sun in the summer would lighten your hair. I believe it.
