I eat a much broader range of food than my parents. I can't even imagine being my parents, thinking of how much good food they've lost out on in their lives.

maybe that's why you enjoy trying new foods? you didn't get to growing up as a kid. good for you.

I think that parents who teach their kids bad habbits by eating lots of junk and fast food, etc. make it seem acceptable for their kids to do and the kids do it later on in life.

My parents didn't allow me to have the sugar filled cerals, lots of candy or soda, etc. They always made healthy food and didn't have junk in the house. I actually never liked eating dessert. I remember my mom would make cookies but I'd rather have an apple or 2nds on dinner. Now married and on my own I prefer healthy food. Salad, fish, veggies and that sort of food for meals. It tastes better to me because it IS better for me.

I eat a much broader range of foods than my parents did and I don't eat red meat much...maybe 1 or 2 bacon strips a month...less fat more vegetables...all the healthy stuff they keep telling us about.

The only thing I remember that concerned my parents about food was being sure to eat everything on the plate. "Remember, there are children starving in India."

One day I got tired of hearing this and said, "then send my plate to India!"

That did not go well. But I felt better...
