The United States never wants to risk their men but unfortunately sometimes it is necessary. the Japanese starting getting extra aggressive like using kamikaze (even though the kamikaze were no where nearly as effective as the Japanese hoped). the Japanese forced our hand and that is what they got for it. Believe it or not the 2 atomic bombs were not the only reasons that japan surrendered but you are going to have to study your history to find out the rest of it.

It was thought that the Japanese would fight to the last man, woman, and child for the emperor - and that it would have cost a large number of American lives to obtain victory, and the atomic bombs were a way to bring the war to a quick conclusion.

It was not the risk of our soldiers. iI was the estimated number of lost lives of our soldiers which would make the total loss in Iraq, U.S. vehicular death per year, and U.S murders in our cities look miniscule.
