Seems particularly barbaric to me. Why didn't he just sacrifice a cockroach or something?

you are exactly right, the idea of God is a man made creation. the entire evidence of God's existence is given through the holy book (bible, Koran, etc) which in it self a "God's creation" those believers clams. think about it, when you go buy a car, would you believe every thing the manufacture advertising tells you? or would you go look at independent reviews like JD power. if you simply believers every thing the manufacture brochure, you are just gullible. if not why would you only believe in the bible or Koran as the only proof. also those monotheistic worshiper also believe in the fact that the reason why no miracles or prophet have appeared in years is because either God said there wont be any or the next time he came the world would come to an end. this logic in it self is questionable too, this will be the same as a scientist clam he discover perpetual energy but he cannot replicate the experiment because he cannot get the exact condition when the first experiment is perform. Of course its easy to call the scientist in my example a sham because we know that perpetual energy does not exist, and if it did, this experiment would be repeatable, and this concept have been true for all thing human know of. yet when it comes to religion, most religions people will say "no you cant proof that God does not exist", but on the same token that they failed to realize you can never proof anything that doesn’t exist. but if it did exist, you can proof it. religion it is nothing more then one cripple logic covering another cripple logic, and if anyone raise questions to the plausibility of this logic, that person will be told that he or she don't have the mental capability to understand what God's thinking. in reality, the purpose of religion is for people to cope with life when there is no hope for a better future (i.e. young kids and people dying before the 1st century until modern medicine). but in todays world, such hardship was no longer there, yet this deep rooted evil still exist.

for His glory

sin is primitive and abcene, it demands a primitive and obcene payment

perhaps... great anmounts of God's character mercy and love would not be known in the same depth otherwise???

------------- see the song Angel's wish-------------------

Well, I can't fly
At least not yet
I've got no halo on my head
And I can't even start to picture Heaven's beauty
But I've been shown the Savior's love
The grace of God has raised me up
To show me things the angels long to look into
And I know things
The Angels only wish they know

I have seen the dark and desperate place
Where sin will take you
I've felt loneliness and shame
And I have watched the blinding of grace
Come breaking through with a sweetness
Only tasted by the forgiven and redeemed

And someday I'll sit down with my angel friends
Up in Heaven
They'll tell me about creation
And I'll tell them a story of grace

It is an involved story. Have you read the whole thing through? If not, you might want to start there.

It is difficult to explain to a skeptic why this must have happened as it did. But I will try.

God is omnipotent, omniscient, and all-loving as you say. But he gave people the choice to love or hate him, and he decided to respect our choices. That is, God could "automatically" change our hearts around if he wanted, but that would be dishonoring our choice, and it would be creating robots. And those who are forced to love don't love. It's not love when it is required. It is only love when freely given. God wants our love that is freely given to him.

A good while back, God sent his law to earth through Moses. These were the things that people had to do to know and serve God. Most people just weren't getting it. An impersonal law was either too hard to follow or else it just wasn't enough. It was an "external" thing. You know how it goes--when you do the right thing just because it's the right thing and doesn't come from your heart. So people were either obeying the law (the Ten Commandments), disobeying it, or following it in their deeds but not loving it in their hearts.

God saw the problem in numerous ways. First, people had no direct access to him, as none were worthy. The few to whom God had appeared--like Moses--had approached him in fear and humility after having been called. But not many had the chance to have direct contact with God, since they were not called, due to their pride and unworthiness.

The playing field was very un-level. God was displeased with humankind. He had already sent the law, and few loved it, so now what?

God decided to come to earth. One thing born from his incarnation on earth was mercy. Up until Jesus lived, God could have compassion for people, but mercy was a whole other matter. God could not have mercy as long as he was God and had no idea what it was like to live in the flesh and be tempted to sin. God decided to put himself in the vulnerable position of being flesh and being tempted to sin, so that he may come closer to man.

I am tired of typing now, especially since in the back of my mind I suspect that you don't really want to know. If you truly want to know more, please email me and I will continue the discussion with you. It is all perfectly sensical, logical, and sublimely beautiful, I do assure you that.

Best to you.

Before Jesus, Jews sacrificed animal for there blood to atone for there sins. The old testament prophesied that the savior would die on the cross (at the time this was predicted Crucifixion didn't even exist)

So Jesus had to shed his blood for our sins.

You said it best when you said "God" is all knowing, not humans.

techinically, gods are supernatural beings. they possess supernatural powers and talents but are not SUPRAnatural. this means that they are limited to what they can do. Eor example, Superman is a supernatural being who can dodge bullets and etc but yet he can still be killed with the use of kryptonite. according to books gods are not all knowing or all-anything....

You're only going to get black & white answers with this question. Religious people will whine and mindlessly quote their precious bible, and people like you will simply agree.

I, on the other hand, will ask why you give their god so much of your time and energy?
