If you're using a heat tool, it's bad. Think near boiling temp water on your hair.

I’m not positive if it’s bad for your hair...but if it appears to be damaged..chances are it’s not too good...
in my opinion i would try only washing my hair 3-4 times a week for the next few weeks. only wash the scalp. when you rinse the shampoo out it will run over the rest of you hair for a quick wash (keeping it somewhat free of build up). this will allow the natural oils from your hair to help replenish it naturally. make sure you use a really good conditioner and make sure to condition it every day when you shower even though you’re not washing it every day. let it air dry rather than using a hair dryer if you can. that just causes more damage. and when you get out of the shower apply a leave in conditioner to your hair.
for best results try using a hair mask or a really good leave on moisturizer. if you go to Sally's Beauty Supply Store they have a really good cholesterol treatment for your hair. they also have many really good re-constructors.
here's the website (with intensive treatments, & reconstructors) if you would like to check it out before hand, so you can get an idea of what you’re looking for!

if you use the right products and conditioners you'll see results almost instantly.
i hope i was able to help some! Good Luck! :)
Another thing that you may want to know, i tell everyone this when they ask a hair ?... Zinc, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Biotin, & Amino Acids along with a few other vitamins are very important for healthy hair. there are some really good vitamins specially made for healthy hair growth. A really good one is called "Shen Min". It has just about every vitamin known for healthy hair. Not only will it help restore your hair back to its original form (color, thickness) but it will your hair grow. :)

You should never straighten your hair when it's wet, even if it's just a little wet you shouldn't! Just make sure you blow dry so its completely dry before you straighten it and also use a hair product that protects your hair against heat.

fact: it is better to have some moisture left in your hair when you straighten it.. not wet..not even really damp..only dry your hair to about 85%. with some dampness the heat from the iron actually steams the hair straight which is better..
think of it like this: a piece of paper that has gotten damp; you put a hot iron on it..what happens?..it drys! now take a paper that is completely dry and put an iron on it what would happen?..it would catch fire from the heat...your hair is similar..keep some moisture in it...also use a thermal protecting spray like Chi iron guard 44 or at least a leave in conditioner. it will help protect the hair.

Be careful! Do not straighten it when its wet. You are scorching your hair. Plus, its not going to stay completely straight. The effect is much better if you straighten after its dry. And be careful about considering chemically straightening your hair. Mine broke off in clumps!!!

i would suggest getting a straightener that is designed for wet hair. i have one and it works great because it dries and straightens my hair at the same time. and they really don't coat that much more. i would also suggest putting some sort of hair "protector" (sucha as a speacial spray) made to help protect yr hair against the heat. :)

YES!!! Do you want your hair to break and be really thin? Using heat every day is not a good idea. Let it air dry sometimes. I suggest you get a good product to repair the damage from a good haircare line you trust.

I don't really know, im a big fan of hair straightener myself... i used to use it whenever my hair is wet but then i read something online about it, and it actually said the hair will break easily if you do it wet.
so now i use it when it is damp...

You should get a special straightener that's called wet2straight at walmart. It has steam holes so you can straighten your hair even when it's wet without frying it. Me and my brother share one and we're happy with it.
