I was a breach baby, in fact, I was in the womb sideways. And rather than do a C-section, my FAMILY doctor delivered me naturally. Think he must have just yanked the hell out me because i was born with a compound fracture of the right arm and a black eye. But it gets better. They couldn't get me to breath for six minutes and it screwed up my pituitary gland in my brain. The pituitary gland secretes growth hormone and tells all the other glands what to do. As a result, I am short (5'5"), and I have to take both oral and injected steriods for the rest of my life (plus Thyroid meds). All this could have been prevented by a C-cection.
Didn't they know how to do them in 1953? Or were very few done or what?

Very few c-sections were done then, and even when they were performed the survival rate was low. The procedure only became commonplace in the last 20 to 30 years.

Well, without researching the history- I can say from listening to my mom talk (born in 1939) they didn't like to do them unless absolutely necessary. Also, a laot of doctors refuse to admit to being wrong about a decision. I dint know why they didn't c-section you- but it would have saved you from the burdens of medications and such. But think of it like this- all you have dealt with and been through has made you the person you are today. Hopefully you are happy with who you have become in spite of your tribulations.

I have seen this scene unfortunately usually by older GP's who are still afraid to do sections or not qualified to do them and refuse to lose a patient by referral.

Like the others, i do not believe c sections were common in the 50's. as you say, you are "short", but 5'5'' is not all that bad... keep your chin up.
