HAHAHAHA... I do get this a lot: My name being mispronounced or even misspelled. When I am being introduced to the person the first time and he or she did call me a different name or at least the one that seems to sound nearest to my real name, I don't take offense. I would try to correct him or her and then forget that it happened.
BUT, if it came from someone I have known for a long time, then that is really unacceptable. I will not stop until he/she would get my name right...lol...

People call me by the wrong name all the time on the phone. I say Samantha, but they just here Amanda for some reason. As a receptionist, I get it about 20 times a day. It just rolls off my back now.
Sometimes I call people by the wrong name back, to annoy them, but mostly I just laugh at it these days. What else can you do?!

I would not want to even know that person. That person is not good enough to be my friend then, in other words (just kidding but you get the point.) I would feel awful because if they don't really like my name for that which I was given, Then they are not worthy of being around anymore. sure wouldn't want to be around them anymore. Nobody is worth changing your name too.

I get this a *lot*. I am constantly being called by the wrong name or told that my name is hard to pronounce. I just shrug. My family and close friends call me by my true name.
In the "Earthsea" trilogy of books, there is a general belief that your *real* name would give power over you. People generally give out a knickname rather than telling anyone their true name. I think there's a lot of truth in that. Anyone who knows my real name gets their email read first, gets my attention quicker, and generally makes me feel better about them.

If they called me by the wrong name I'd ignore them because it wasn't my name.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but several people call me by my sister's name. We are not twins, she is 3 yrs older than I am, but we look enough alike to be twins. We both hate being called by each other's names.

I've actually had both things happen to me - I worked for an Indian doctor who kept calling me Carmine - and my name is Karla. I kept trying to tell him that it was Karla - and he kept calling me Carmine.
Second - next job I took already had a Carla working there and she asked me to change my name - so that she could be the ONLY Carla there. What an ***-huh?!?!

I have ignorant people call me by the wrong name all the time. They are either too stupid or lazy to take the time and look at it properly.
