they put this cream stuff in in and comb it straight and you leave it in for awhile and wash it out and then you can wash you hair for a day or 2..its dry and feels nasty and breaks easy..i use a flat iron everyday on my hair, but i use really good shampoo and conditioner..and my hair is so curly that it freezes all the time, but it looks a lot better after using the the flat iron.

there are bonds in your hair between the keratin. they use a chemical to break these bonds and use the flat iron to iron out all the kinks. then they use another chemical to recreate the bond. treatment solutions are then applied to moisturize your hair. depending on the strength of the chemicals and the state of your hair, the result can range from poker straight to wavy. if you get an experienced hairdresser using quality solutions, your hair will retain that salon-blowdried look for about 6-12 months. thereafter, the hair will need some TLC to remain shiny.if you already have badly damaged hair, it's not recommended as the process is actually quite damaging to the hair shaft. oh, and if you're naturally super-curly, the regrowth is really unsightly. go for it if your hair is straight-wavy and frizzy. it really makes a difference.

I had it done years ago to correct a badly done perm.
After wearing hats and a pony tail for nearly 3 months I changed hair dressers and all she did was comb perming solution through my hair as I sat tall and still (I had hair down past my shoulder blades) She just combed it straight down like I would wear it when it was dry. Lasted a few months before my natural wave started to grow in.
Is it healthier? Chemicals or drying heat. Neither one is healthy.
It's better just to be natural. Just find a cut that suits your hair texture. Less to think about, and you are probably the only one that cares so much about how your hair looks... I've been there, done that and I'm more at ease with a cute cut.

well its not really permanently straight...when your hair grows it will go back to the way it was before...it can be damaging to your hair if you get it done in intervals too close together, but other than that, it will stay straight for a week or two, then when you wash it, it will go back to normal. Also, after you do that, you can never get your hair permed until you grow all of your hair out.

I had a phase where I went from a spiral perm to chemically straightened hair and back again every year or two. Depending on how healthy your hair is to begin with will determin how it will turn out.
Go to a reputable hairdresser, and ask their opinion.

And as for how straight it will be..... bone straight... no wave, no curl. Long and straight. :) GL!

Edit: If I grow out the chemicals when its straight,my hair comes in straight. If I grow it out with a perm (like now) it grows in curly. It's different for everyone.

anytime you use a chemical to alter the structure of the hair it can be damaging...a flat iron is better on the hair as long as you use a good conditioner and not too hot of a setting..

as for chemically straighten..YES YOU CAN GET IT WET..
what has been straightened will stay str...the new growth will have to be done as it grows in...depending on your hair it can be permanent and will have to grow out to get natural curl back..you can eventually perm over it but depending on the product used to str.. it could be better of a year... talk to your stylist and have her detail the products she uses..she would know best...

i think it really depends on what type of straighten u have, my old one doesn't really stay for long, but with the new one i bought recently, it's really good, it could stay a day if u do not tie your hair.

not sure whether it would stay overnight or not. (i wash my hair everyday)

using the iron is way better than the chemicals. as long as you protect your hair from the heat with pressing spray it shouldn't damage your hair if you know how to do it...
